Modern Family, April 11, 2012 -- "Election Day"

So, what did you guys think about last night’s episode?

I must have missed it, but why was Luke wrapped in blue tissue paper at the end?

I usually roll my eyes when people come in here right off the bat and talk about how weak an episode was. I can usually find something that I liked in the episode. Well, I guess this week I’m going to be ‘that guy’.

I really thought this was a meh episode.

Took me a minute to figure that out, but I think he just wrapped himself up in the streamers they’d put up for Clair’s victory party. Something Luke would obviously do.

Wasn’t Alex wrapping him?

The best part of the episode were the Phil/Walt scenes. “You know, my wife was an alcoholic too.”

“That’s NOT her drunk voice!”

The one real chuckle I had was when Luke was kicking over the campaign sign of Claire’s rival.

The lady whose fiance was outed by Cam and Mitchell was Anna Draper from Mad Men!

I admit that if I had a car with a loudspeaker on it I would be tempted to use it like they did. Not to harass a dry cleaner that I wasn’t happy with, but to shame litterers and jaywalkers.

Yes, that was very funny!

I liked the “dimpled Chad” joke, and Gloria complaining that nobody was listening to her because “they have to seeeee meeeee”, with hand gestures.

While Phil was saying, “this is our family’s finest hour.”

“How old are you?”

Aha! That’s where I recognized her from! Thanks, h.sapiens!

“We regret to inform you…” and she stops reading.

“Well? Come on don’t leave me hanging!”

I didn’t like the episode because I didn’t think it was THAT particularly funny, but mostly because the ending was just a letdown.

I won’t say what actually happened cuz I’ve gotten yelled at for open spoilers before (and I don’t know how to do boxes) but I just didn’t feel what they wanted me to

“Well, OK, I’ll vote for her 'cause you’re a nice kid, and my wife was an alcoholic too…”

My dad used his (and the ominous appearance of his long black car with tinted windows) to scare people at a UFO convention.

It was done in a totally nonchalant way, completely uncommented-on, which is entirely how I think my son would do it, too. Pretty sure my son is Luke minus a few years.

I loved “The whole family is high!”, as well as Claire’s speech thanking everyone at the end, interspersed with the people she was thanking admitting how little they had done:

“Thank you to Phil, for driving who knows how many senior citizens to vote!”
<aside> “One.”

Would be interesting to know what she lost by - would her GOTV effort have worked if it had been staffed by someone other than her family?

If they did tell us by how much, I was really hoping it wasn’t by one vote (or something to do with a tie) to imply that it was because of Jay’s ballot not making it into the box. It’s cheesy and been done before.
