So, what did everyone think of last night’s episode?
I thought it was pretty funny.
“I want a new computer” (“Done!”)
“I want a chicken pot pie” (“Chicken!”)
“I want a car” (“Done!”)
Loved Cam’s ‘native American’ schtick at the end. ("…with skin the color of maize… which, you may recall, is what you call corn").
Luke, Phil and Claire’s son, is quickly becoming my favorite character. The way he stuck his chin into the bowl of cereal so he could slurp it up while using both hands to continue to play DS.
Or when he built the condo towers out of cans and bottles only to start smashing it like Godzilla with a battle axe:
[high pitched voice]
Oh no! They cut corners and didn’t install fire escapes!
[/high pitched voice]
I’ll cut your corners!
CRASH
LOL!
I liked the Cam/Mitchell plot the most:
“Disabled interracial lesbians with an African baby kicker!”
“We never got picked first for sports.”
“I always got picked first. I could throw a dodgeball through a sheet of plywood.”
And I’m glad they finally let the oldest daughter use her brains a bit, even if she isn’t getting a car out of it.
That was also my favorite line of the show—I also liked the “We were Shawshanked” bit as well…
my vote for quote of the episode.
This episode was hilarious!
I loved seeing Jay and Manny getting a bit (perhaps more than just a bit – Ha!) scared of Gloria. And I really enjoyed seeing Haley outwit Phil and Claire. Great fun!
I already loved Gloria, but her matter-of-factly explaining how to kill a rat with a shovel made her one of my all time favorite sitcom characters.
This episode reminded me of a couple Seinfeld episodes. Or was I the only one who thought going without electronic devices is equally as difficult as remaining the “master of your domain”? Also when Elaine stole a dog and tried to take it out to the country side, the dog didn’t stay gone.
I just got into this series, watching the pilot up until last weeks episode in a few weeks. This was my first ‘live’ show. Haley has been one of my favorite characters, she does such a good job at being believable. Then I found out Luke is a member of Mensa. He does such a good job (like Haley…or Joey on Friends) that you almost forget he’s not actually a bumbling moron that regularly walks into walls.
I was a bit surprised at that. I would have figured she’s be smart enough to say “Ha!, I tricked you, I took the battery out, I wasn’t using my phone” but then we wouldn’t have been able to hear Phil say that he got Shawshanked.
Parrot? What Parrot?
I like how Gloria was all “no way is Jay going to Columbia” after he showed her about the trip.
And then her “Jay! Jay! JAY!!” sets off the car alarm. Hilarious.
I actually used the line, “and now we have peekles!”
A few times today.
Mine, too - it kept coming back into my head today. This episode made me laugh my ass off from start to finish (including Gloria matter-of-factly dispatching a rat in her pretty white church dress).
I also liked the little bit at the end when they were explaining to Haley how she wasn’t going to get a car after all, and one of them (not sure which) mutters something about bad parenting.
That was no church dress- -that was a ‘take me salsa dancing then bring me home and f* me nasty’ dress, that Gloria thinks is appropriate to wear to church. Which cracks me up.
a consistently laugh-out-loud show.
Julie Bowen/Claire plays the uptight, over-extended mom perfectly…or so my kids think.
Not only was Luke slurping while playing video games classic, but when Claire said “Phil!” and Phil, insteading of disciplining Luke, looks at him and back at Claire and says “I know - cool!”
What was Mitch’s line “leave it to the gays to raise the only under-achieving Asian baby”? Something like that - too damn funny.
“We’re not Peruvians!” As an Ecuadorian, I approve.
You know, I am not sure if Haley was using the fake “soap/phone” purely as a deceptive ploy to help her win the bet, or if she just needed to have a phone-like device in her hand in order to properly entertain herself.
Haley:“But we had a deal!!!”
Phil:“Which in hindsight was utter nonsense.”
Everything about this episode had me laughing out loud. So much so that I had to watch it again to catch all the gags. The look on Claire and Phil’s faces after Luke yells out, “I’ll cut your corners,” is absolutely priceless.
