Modern Family, Nov. 16, 2011 -- "After The Fire"

So, what did everyone think of last night’s episode?

I really liked the Jay/Phil story line. It was quite sweet. As horrified as he was to say “I love you” to Phil, you could tell that he realized that really meant it.

Cam and the girls slapstick truck-driving stuff was quite good too. I got a kick out of the gay truck driver coming to rescue.

I didn’t think it was that particularly funny…but a very sweet episode which made me enjoy it anyway.

So I won’t count this as a miss because I thoroughly enjoyed the episode

Yeah, but we are lead to believe that Cam actually does have quite a bit of experience driving large farm vehicles and then he goes and parks it where he can’t get out and then panics? I was disappointed.

If I recall correctly, Cam was the only one talking up his experience driving truck. He tends to exaggerate.

My favorite line:

“The Native Americans believed that burning sage kept away the bad energy.”
“How’d that work out for them?”

Manny and Luke are some of the best writing on the show: two characters who are both believable as kids but funny to adults. That’s a hard feat.

Could anybody make out Alex’s shirt? The top said “And God said…” and the bottom line was “…let there be light”, but what was the drawing or chart in the middle? I assume it was something about the physics of light but I’m not familiar with it.

Yes, when they showed that big truck all parked in like that I was expecting Cam to throw it in reverse and back it out like a pro. I was surprised when he got flustered, I was expecting it to be one of those surprise “flash of competence” moments.

Great way to get Phil and Jay to finally bond a little. Liked that too.

Thought it was one of the strongest episodes of the season.

Alex rescuing the helicopter (and her line to her sister) was great.

Really like it when they show that while Gloria may have a very big personality, she’s not stupid. So her honest rebuttal to Claire was great.

I like that with how hard Phil tries to get Jay to say nice things, and Jay tries to resist, when it happens (the front porch, the massage utterance was kind of weird) it is natural and essentially goes unremarked upon by either.

I really expected the closing tag to be Phil and Claire in bed that night and he casually says “Jay said he loves me.”

Overall a very good episode if not riotously funny.

“I’m not even your favorite Colombian in this family.”

This is the t-shirt Alex was wearing. Can somebody tell me what the formula’s are?

Maxwell’s equations, which describe electromagnetic waves such as light.

Yeah, I always assumed that he was exaggerating his various “farm exploits”. It was hilarious seeing him with Alex and Haley!

I loved Alex and Haley’s insta-fight to get kicked out of the house.

Luke is my favorite these days- very witty, a perfect Claire-Phil hybrid.

I think he got hemmed in after he parked (but I’m not rewatching to confirm).

That’s what was implied by Cam’s line, something like, “Wow, it really got busy.”

Yes, after they came out the girls remarked how crowded the lot had gotten. I think any truck driver would have had trouble getting out - it was only Cam’s insistence he could do it without help that got him in trouble.

I love how they plan episodes so far ahead - up to having Phil mention the wireless printer to Jay while they were filming the ranch episode.

But what the hell was up with the sleep-clown thing ? That was the only bad part of the episode.

So…many…plotlines

Vindicated

Though I’ve been telling my daughter, who watches MF with me, not to “sleep clown” when I tell her goodnight.

It passes for humor in our house.

Every episode is hilarious. I have yet to be disappointed by this show.

Unrelated (and sorry if there’s a thread about this already) : What happened to the Halloween episode from this season? I was under the impression it was a new one but when I tuned it they were replaying last seasons episode???
