I’m posting this thread in anticipation of tonight’s episode, so we can chat about it later.
Oh yay! I’m so glad you posted this because I didn’t know there would be a new one!
“Who’s this?”
“Who indeed.”
Dammit I can’t believe we are back to regular programming/ no reruns. Oh well, Hulu to the rescue!
I thought it was the weakest MF ever. The whole family gathering out of concern was so classic sitcommy (yes, I know it’s a sitcom, but I expect it to be better than that, etc). The best bits were with Jay, Manny and his dad; Cam and Mitchell’s relationship has become very competitive and snippy. I hope this is just a bit of a lull.
Not their best effort.
I’m ready for a Claire-centric episode, perhaps one that requires fewer/smaller clothing items (I know its TV, I’m not asking for naked).
The best part was the end when Cam couldn’t keep his eyes off of Benjamin Bratt. My wife said that I have that exact expression but around food, not hot dudes.
That was funny! And Mitchell told him to stop staring; but Mitch couldn’t keep his eyes off Benjamin Bratt, either!
The way he kept looking at Benjamin Bratt just killed me.
I don’t think it’s an accident, knowing how clever the writing on this show is - Manny is the son of two drop-dead gorgeous people, and he is…not drop-dead gorgeous. I’m not sure what point they’re making with that.
I did like Mitchell’s realization - “I am acting like a 14 year old girl.”
All I remember is that we got to see Phil shirtless.
It was a surprising display of maturity for Mitchell who has lately become a very annoying person.
Gloria was my favorite of the episode, especially when she lit into Haley after Phil’s speech.
More and more, my favorite character is Cam. And I totally believe he won all those trophies.
Eyes right. Eyes center. Eyes right. Eyes center. Keep a neutral expression.
One of the things I love about this show is that they usually do play right up to the line of “oh well, guess the characters are becoming caricatures of themselves now” and dial it back again.
I remember when I had had it up to here (I’m holding my hand high!!) with Phil’s dumbassery and all of a sudden there was the episode where it showed how Claire is just a big a nutball as he is and he is the normal one in several instances.
I thought this episode was just ok. I really think I was looking for more of an emotional payoff ending with the bio-dad (they’ve gotten me before with his douchiness and Jay’s picking up the pieces) and I do like that it didn’t play into it every time.
And… Benjamin Bratt. Day-um!
See ya in hell, Klaus!
The first time I heard Luke say that, I thought it was ‘Krauts’, not ‘Klaus.’ Which is even more hilariously inappropriate.
Walt is brilliant. I hope they bring him back some more.
(To Gloria, complaining Americans want everyone to speak English) - “Win a war some time. Then we’ll start talking like you.”
“Great, now I’m dead. I’m going to the bathroom.”
“You know they say that happens.”
Yeah, I particularly love what he said to Gloria!
Dr.: Are you still working out?
Phil: Obviously!
I understand Mitchell being a bit irked, but Cam’s trophy is definitely the prettier, and kind of like the Oscar in terms of teenaged bass fishing in rural Missouri.
The whole stomping on rats bit was really horribly cheesy, though. Total sitcom gimmick.
