As Claire pointed out, they’re not in Times Square. If you’re in the suburbs, especially in a place like Los Angeles, you have to call for a cab, and it’ll take forever to arrive.
8th grade graduations aren’t unheard of in public schools these days.
Umm … I found that scene kind of hot.
I don’t think it’s all that uncommon for well-off people to send their kids to public school when they live in rich suburbs and most of their classmates come from similar affluence.
My father had a graduation from his public grammar school in the early 1960s. No caps or gowns though. I didn’t have my first graduation ceremony of any kind until 12th grade. Regarding the public/private school thing; didn’t Claire take it for granted that Cam & Mitchell would be sending Lily to a private pre-schoo? IIRC it was a choice between an “ordinary” private school (that Claire sent her kids too) and a super-expensive high class private school.
Just for reference, I grew up in an upper middle class family in Los Angeles and went to public school. Also Emerson Jr. High School in West LA had a graduation ceremony in 1982 for its 9th graders, and probably did before that too, so it’s not like it’s a new trend. I can’t remember us having a valedictorian though.
