Modern Family Returns Tonight! 9-26-12

Gloria’s preggers.

Haley’s a college student.

…I can’t wait!

Me neither!

Good episode. Jay’s speech near the end almost had me in tears- very sweet.

The actor playing Manny appears to have hit puberty. Was he always such a bad actor and I never noticed, or has he suddenly gotten self-conscious or something, and his acting is suffering? Because he was horrible.

Yeah it’s amazing that most of the sappy endings are still effective, but they are.

Ok. I’m sorry but I laughed at the elephant and gorilla.

I always liked Manny, but you have to remember, he’s Luke and Gloria’s straight man. He exists to either be the butt of jokes or lob setups to other characters.

I had a handful of LOL moments. I loved Claire’s “you’re gonna get fat” reaction. It seemed so perfect and it was a nice subtle reminder of Claire’s underlying hate for Gloira. There was another one, can’t think of it at the moment though.

Something else, I happened to look away at exactly the moment when they skipped forward and did a double take. I backed up to watch it again and though “Wow, Gloria doesn’t look like pregnant-fat” I like that they made a joke about it.

Also, I don’t know my poetry that well, but I believe that was free verse at the end.

No, it wasn’t that. His delivery was just off, on almost every line.

I’ve always thought Manny was a terrible actor. His line readings are ridiculously stiff. Also, was it my imagination, or has he gotten some peach fuzz on his upper lip?

*Speaking of young actors hitting puberty, over on The Middle, Brick’s voice was cracking so badly it was distracting.

Brick? Little Brick is growing up???

The world will never be the same…

I had to pause the episode I was laughing so much at the elephant & gorilla scene. That was just perfectly set up but completely unexpected.

We were dying over in my house. My son actually came out of his room and asked my husband and I to “please keep it down” because he was trying to go to sleep. :dubious: :stuck_out_tongue:

Cam: When Steven and Stephan had a baby, Longinus sent over the entire cast of Yo Gabba Gabba.

Mitch: And now he’s terrified of primary colors.

Cam: I’m still not allowed over.

Luke: Ew, I didn’t know grandpas still did it.

Phil: Don’t be disrespectful! [pause] Anyone could do it with Gloria.

That was a really funny episode, a very good start to the season. I was way too amused at Claire’s joy at the thought of Gloria getting fat.

Hilarious!!

"It’s a French delicacy called poutine.
“It looks like vomit so I’m not ‘poutine’ it in my mouth.”

“She’s being factitious… Sarcastic… DYLAN NO STAY.”

Did anyone else catch the little joke from Phil while they were on the boat?

Shorty : A day on the lake with your three best friends.
Jay : Oh, is Marty coming?
Phil : (looks at Ernie Hudson) Ooohhh, burn.

Phil’s lust for Gloria is getting distracting. I honestly don’t understand why Claire hasn’t taken his head off with a baseball bat.

She knows he has no filter between his brain and his mouth.

She knows he’d never cheat on her anyway.

She knows Gloria has no interest in him.

She knows that even if the previous facts turned out to be untrue and something did happen, her father would break every bone in his body.
I concur that Manny was off in last night’s episode. Luke, as usual, was brilliant - “Sometimes I just like to toss a grenade then walk away.”

It’s neither French nor a delicacy.

I wonder how they’re going to do this gag when the show is translated for a foreign-language audience?

Mitchell at the beginning was funny. “This is ridiculous. We need to talk about the elephant in the room.” [Camera pulls back to show giant stuffed elephant.] Later there was another joke about the hundred-pound gorilla.

I marvel at how well the show is written and acted. Some of the other sitcoms are so bad, I wonder why they are on the air. But from watching this show, it’s apparent that good comedy writers are rare and it helps when the cast works well together.
