I’m looking for opinions about something diet related.
I’ve been slowly losing weight and doing fairly well at it as I’ve lost about 40 lbs since the beginning of the year. I like to have a big dinner so I’ve been eating very low-cal during the day to save up most of my calories for dinner. While that has worked so far, I’d like to try something different.
I want to switch it up a bit and have most of my calories for breakfast and lunch and then have a lite dinner. I’m tired of starving all day and then being stuffed after dinner. I don’t imagine that’s the best way to go about things anyway.
I decided that for breakfast I would have an English muffin, an egg and some fruit and a cup of tea. The problem is I leave for work at about 7:30 in the morning and I just really don’t want to start making myself breakfast and eating it before I leave. I normally have a breakfast bar and a cup of tea at work at about 8:30.
There is a McDonald’s in the building I work in and I thought I could just get an egg Mcmuffin with no meat or cheese instead and take some fruit with me.
I can’t imagine there’s that much difference between me making an English muffin and egg and a McDonald’s English muffin and egg. This seems like a good alternative to me.
It’s been years since I set foot into a McD. But when I did partake, I recall enjoying the odd McMuffin. If memory serves, they put butter on the english muffin. Ask them to hold the butter and splurge by adding a slice of ham instead. It’s lean. It’s protein. It’s delicious.
…and now I know what I’m making myself for dinner.
I’m a vegetarian so I wouldn’t get the meat anyway. The odd time that I have one I do get the cheese though. I wonder how much butter (or butter-like food product) they put on one?
FloatyGimpy, have you considered a veggie morning product from say Morningstar Farms? Or perhaps making your own with egg whites and good cheese and whatever you feel like?

I actually have a lot of their products and often have something like that with my dinner. I just don’t want to cook in the morning before work. I don’t want to have to get up any earlier than I need to and I’m not hungry right away when I wake up. I’d rather just pay someone to do it for me in the morning and 230 calories fits in perfectly with how many I’m wanting to have for breakfast.
Thank you, Idle Thoughts. I’m just pulling myself out of a bit of a depression and I’m trying really hard to not let things like that get to me.
Congrats! I’ve lost 12 pounds over the summer (lots more to go), and I know what a struggle it can be.
I don’t know if this is something you want to do or not, but on occasion I’ll make some homemade low cal McMuffins and wrap them in tinfoil. Then, while I’m getting ready for work, I’ll throw them in the oven and let them warm up, and take them to work with me and eat them in the car.
Or later at work. I’m like you, it takes me a good while after I wake up to get hungry (oh, if only that would happen in reverse, I could be a size 2!!! :D).
Lately I’ve boiled a few eggs at night and then taken an English muffin and an egg to work with me, whereupon I toast the muffin, slice and heat the egg in the microwave, and then smear a wee bit of margarine on the muffin and salt and pepper on the egg.

I do something similar to that for dinner. On the weekend I’ll spend one day cooking and freezing all my meals for the week. Then in the evenings after work I go to the gym and when I come home I just take the meal out of the fridge and into the microwave for a couple of minutes. Instant dinner and only one dish to wash!
Idle Thoughts I’m going to request that you unsuspend Yorikke. He’s obviously going through something and if he was to go and off himself I sure don’t want that on my conscience.
I tried to pm him to tell him that I’m here if he needs to talk but when someone is suspended you can’t pm them. I reported his posts at first but I’d like to take that back.
