Ahhh, BS. It’s just the “mob mentality” run amok yet again here on SDMB. Jump on Snowboarder Bo, ‘cause it’s the popular thing of the moment. I’ve been in his shoes myself. This is much ado about nothing. Get a fuckin’ life.
Oftentimes, this message board is compared to a cocktail party with dozens of random conversations happening around the room. What Snowboarder Bo has been doing with his little quarry thing is essentially running around to every conversation, sticking his head in the circle and going “Catchphrase!” before chuckling to himself and running off to the next group to do the exact same thing.
Is it any wonder that people find it annoying?
If it was up to me we would. They are utterly without content or purpose, much like your [del]stupid[/del] catchphrase.
Then “regards” and the like should also be banned as numerous people have expressed their annoyance by them.
Maybe they should be. I don’t make the rules, and as I said, I don’t really care. I don’t think that people complaining to the mods is a good thing, but if someone knows he is annoying people and continues to do so just to be annoying, then he is being a child.
ETA—I’d add all the zombie “jokes” to the list of banned items as well if I had my way, but I don’t, so that’s that.
Why would I care? If that’s how you want to get your point across, it’s not up to me to see that the mods force you to stop. I can’t see any problem with it.

At least more than one person engages in those. We understand why they are. One person posting a random phrase all the time as though it were a commonly understood meme comes off as a little sad.
Then everyone who uses “regards,” “best,” etc also fit that definition of being a child as they’ve been told many more times than **Snowboarder **that their excessive sign-offs are an annoyance.
My point is that either they all need to be warned, including Bo, or none of them at all, including Bo.
I’m not going to argue about this, as we agree and you don’t seem to realize it. Just because it is silly to complain to the mods about it doesn’t mean that it is an OK thing to keep doing, however.
I wasn’t aware you had been the target of “mob mentality”. But I’ll point out that I’ve been posting regularly on this board for over ten years and I’ve managed to avoid ever riling up a mob against me.
So same message. Maybe you should consider the possibility that the mob had a point and you were the one who was wrong over whatever issue it was.
The purpose of a message board is to communicate. Throwing around a random nonsensical phrase and expecting others to know what you mean is not communication. If you want to say “lol”, there’s already a perfectly good way to say that, that others will understand, and it has the added advantage of only taking three characters.
I know we agree; my point isn’t so much directed at you as everyone else (though I realize it wasn’t really clear since I’m quoting your post).
I’m just saying to the thread this is nothing new and if you want to ban this, there’s a list of other things that should be banned too, with “regards” being the closest equivalent. It’s a slippery slope.

Wow! Why are people getting their knickers in such a twist over this? I have noticed it. It does not bother me. Bo makes plenty of contentful posts, can’t he be allowed a joke (ok a feeble joke) sometimes?
I am a bit curious as to where it comes from, though. Is it a quote from a movie or something?

The simplest solution to this problem is a judicious use of the Ignore List.
It’s a reference to “The Office” where someone messed with the boss’ phone to replace “lol” with that phrase. It’s equally lame, but more obscure than people posting “African or European?”. Since we aren’t going to stop morons from posting Monty Python quotes at the drop of a hat, I say we let Snowboarder Bo keep this until he gets sick of it or sick of explaining it.
The title of my thread was not intended as whining, it was a serious question: Why have the mods not done something about Snowboarder Bo’s behavior?
This board is moderated. If someone is doing something obnoxious and refusing to stop, it is perfectly reasonable to ask the mods to handle it, especially if this behavior is similar to obnoxious behavior by other posters that has been curbed by mods in the past.
This is not at all like a signature. You can’t make posts that consist solely of your signature, with no other content. If Snowboarder Bo wanted this as his signature, that would be fine with me (or as a custom user title). But including it in the text of posts that are devoid of other content is just nonsensical.
And I have no idea how he expects anyone to understand that this 10-word phrase is supposed to represent “LOL”. It makes no sense the way he uses it.

I agree. I think that Snowboarder Bo’s whole “quarry” schtick is possibly one of the dumbest things i’ve ever seen on this board (and that takes some doing), but i don’t see it as something that needs to be regulated by the mods and admins. It’s certainly no more intrusive than Shodan’s fake-polite “Regards” or Mtgman’s “Enjoy,” or any one of a number of other sign-offs and signatures.
