Mods, can't you tell Snowboarder Bo to shut up?

I’ll take a stand and say I don’t think it is in any way reasonable for the mods to take action against Snowboarder Bo. He’s made a reasonable accounting of his actions, and I don’t think what he has been doing has been sufficiently obnoxious to even fall under the “don’t be a jerk” rule.

Of course I have no authority or say of any kind in a matter like this here. It’s just, like, my opinion, man.

I’m not annoyed by it, nor am I wrong, but you can keep insisting that I’m wrong if makes you tingle in your special place. I assume it’s the same feeling you get every time you post that inane quarry line that you, for some reason, seem to think is the funniest thing ever.

Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes! I hate that so much. People who don’t capitalize should be banned a la Landover Baptist - chucked into hell.

Or they could be chucked into the quarry and kill two birds with one stone.

I chuckled when Bo started doing it and I consider it harmless. I don’t mind any of the other board in-jokes either. I suspect that Bo would eventually have gotten bored with it and it would just become one of those “Hi Opal” things that are just part of the landscape here. I think the reaction to it is way out of proportion. Just ignore it folks.

Really??? Do you actually “physically cringe” at a lame comment made by an anonymous dude in the internet??? Especially since you have the power of ignoring him???

I think you mean “second-hand embarassment”.

Bo and his catchphrase are bonerific.

I’m neutral as I’m still new around here and only have encountered the said phrase a few times (the second time I saw it I kinda figured it might be a SD meme or something). So far I’m neither offended nor find it greatly funny.

The scenarios I can see repeating, when the phrase is used in place of LOL as **Snowboarder Bo **explained:

Snowboarder Bo: “Let’s go to the quarry and throw stuff down there!”

A newbie (or any Doper encountering the phrase for the first time): “Whoosh…”

A random helpful Doper: :: Explains the origin and the meaning of the phrase ::

… until the phrase becomes a legit SDMB meme.

FYI: I was not aware of its specific meaning. It looked pretty random to me. FYI.

Ok then. But Snow-Bo: it’s not sufficiently funny. It reads like a non-sequitar, something which is funny once or maybe twice. It’s not funny 27 times (I know - it only feels like you’ve posted it that much.) It also looks like you’re trying to launch a meme. But the meme isn’t good enough.

Look, I’m a little sympathetic: humor is hard. The line is plausibly humorous – except that it’s a fail. And poor posting -which is what this amounts to- is bad form. You should let this go. IMHO. Also in HO of others.

I was wondering what you were doing there, and I figured you were trying to launch a meme. Now I get it. You should stop now, IMHO. You have, however, made your point: I acknowledge that. It’s actually not too bad, up to a point. Up to this very point. Or maybe a little before that.

Er, um, yeah on occasion. Some people embarrass themselves, especially when you see something that just falls short.

It’s way better when posters simply yield to reasonable concerns.

This is never going to happen.

Technical FYI: when you post using the Tapatalk app it automatically inserts signatures (even if you have them turned off I vbulliten). I ended up deleting my sig from my profile so it wouldn’t add it multiple times a thread.

Please, NO! My insurance doesn’t cover my suicide.

Well, if it’s a Vicodin day it’s not as painful as it could be…

Well, it wouldn’t have, but now it’s become such a “thing” that it just might. There are two multiple page threads concerning this one phrase. This is exactly how memes start. I’m going to repost here what I posted in the pit thread (with cleaned up language):

It wasn’t funny the first time Snowboarder Bo used it. It wasn’t funny the second, third, fourth, fifth, etc times he used it. However, once people started crying for mod action, it has become retroactively hilarious. I was on board with this pit thread when it first started, because it was fairly light heartedly telling the guy to please shut up. But after the ATMB thread, I actually hope he keeps it up. The people who hate “Let’s go down to the quarry…” so much are the only reason it’s funny now. You people created this monster!

I don’t mind it, and think people are over-reacting. I haven’t noticed bo changing his posting habits just to have an excuse to use it, or using it just to annoy people. He seems to be doing what he claims, just using it as a substitute for “LOL” in his usual posting (as opposed to John Di Fool who obviously is just posting as an excuse to use his “catchphrase” as a way to attack bo)

Course, I don’t think its particularly funny, but I hardly see the need for the Mods to ban bad jokes.

(plus I kind of agree with Monkey that starting this thread has greatly increased the chance of the phrase becoming a “thing”)

My golly…some of you peeps are wearing your panties WAY too tight in order to make your balls look bigger.

I couldn’t care less who “brings pie” nor could I care less about “planes on treadmills”…or saying “Hi” to any particular member.
Whether someone signs off EVERY post with “Bite me” or “Regards” is inconsequential in my life.

I do, however LOVE throwing shit into quarries and will defend with my life their right to do so…

Nothing left to do but, Smile, Smile, Smile

Don’t take it that personally, Snowboarder Bo. I’ve heard worse catchphrases, but you just kind of ran it into the ground until it became not just unfunny, but actively annoying to a bunch of people. If it matters, you almost never use “LOL,” and you’ve been using this joke about once a day since last month. And I think people got the impression you were trying to make it into an SDMB-wide joke instead of letting it happen organically if it was going to happen. That’s also going to grate on people’s nerves.

From a moderating standpoint, we don’t clamp down on behavior just because it annoys people if it’s not otherwise against the rules. If we get the sense people are doing stuff just to be annoying, we do moderate that.

Sorry, that sounds like a personal problem.

Unless it annoys a mod, which we’ve seen countless times.

Fuck, I’m going to keep doing it until he stops doing it, or the mods tell us to knock it off (tho as I said only in political threads since he’s not doing it in every thread he posts in either). What happens if every poster here starts every thread with some meaningless catchphrase? Will all the “What, me worry?” people still be perfectly happy with said practice? I’m curious to find out.
