I have a Dell monitor with screen dimensions about 13 1/4 X 10 5/8 inches which is an aspect ratio of about 1.27 while the display is 1024 x 768 whic is an AR of 1.33 so the result is that the display is very noticeably distorted by about 6%. Things are taller and thinner than they should be and it bugs me. I have no idea why DELL made this booboo but I’d like to correct it.
The video driver only offers resolutions with AR 1.33. How could I have a resolution with AR which matches the screen’s physical dimensions? something like 1024 x 800 would be close enough.
Have you installed the drivers that came with your monitor? This should cause the appropriate resolution to be available (unless they’re truly outside the capability of your graphics card).
If you could tell us what type of monitor that you have, we can provide more specific advice.
For some reason it was detecting the monitor as your average default “Plug and Play Monitor” and I had quite some trouble installing the specific drivers and, even then, it would not display the correct proportions. Quite a bit of dangerous deleting stuff from the Registry and other such tinkering, I finally have it at 1280x1024 but at 60 Hz rather than 75 Hz. I think I will let it go like that for now. I do not understand why it would not correctly identify the monitor.
