"Monsters" anthology series 1988

One of the entries in this series was an episode entitled “Mr Swlabr,” about a boy with some real jerky family members.

He gets something out of a cereal box, adds water, and it turns into some disgusting (talking) reptilian critter called “Mr Swlabr,” who befriends the boy, and protects him from his jerky step-father.

Maybe the writer was a Cream fan? I thought he picked the name out of thin air since the critter “slobbered” a lot (or so I seem to recall).

And I bet that you thought that by the subject it had nothing to do with the mailbag!

Just curious–I didn’t see the show, I wondered how the audience knew it was spelled that way. Did they show it written down somewhere?

Maybe that was the episode title?

It’d be hard to independently transliterate slobber with a “W”. I’ll bet the writer just riffed on SWLABR, and Disraeli Gears was the inspiration for the whole episode–I seem to remember it was the inspiration for a few of my lives.

Yep. That was the episode title, listed as it came on.
