Aloha! As some of you know, Steve and I went to Maui last week to finally tie the knot. We had such a wonderful vacation and wedding. I won’t bore you with all of the details, but I’ll just give you some highlights.
First the wedding: We rented the Makena Beach Estate so that we could have privacy, and be able to have the champagne toast with our cake. (Alcohol isn’t allowed on the public beach.) Steve and Blake wore matching tuxes and I wore a simple white (no laughes, please) dress and went barefoot. My brother Chris escorted me in, and we started the ceremony. Of course, Blake was the best man, and he tried his hardest to concentrate on what was being said. I was ok until the part in the vows when I was told that I was Steve’s spark. For some reason, that just got to me and a few tears rolled down my cheeks. (No sobbing, thank God!!) Afterward we took about a million pictures. Then we cut the cake and had our champagne.
After the ceremony, we headed over to the SeaWatch restaurant, which is located on the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Courses. The food was delicious, and we were lucky enough to be there on one of the two nights of the year that they set off fireworks over the golf course. Steve actually tried to take credit for the fireworks, but I wasn’t fooled for a minute!
Now the vacation: We stayed in Wailea, which is quiet and very private. Steve was able to golf twice, once in Kapalua and once at the Wailea Gold course. My mom and brother came, as well as Steve’s dad and sister. We had friends from Denver, John and Jennifer, and Dale and Cathy, there as well. Finally, our buddy Barclay came from KC for his vacation. They all stayed up in Lahaina and Kaanapali, so we went up there a few times for dinner. Jennifer, Cathy and I went to a spa in Wailea for an afternoon of pampering the day before the wedding. We also went snorkeling and I got to swim with three HUGE sea turtles!! That was extremely cool. Finally, we took a helicopter ride around the island as a surprise for Blake, and boy, was he happy! The rest of the time was divided equally among shopping, lying on the beach, and lying at the pool.
That’s about the whole trip summed up. I’ve posted pictures in my photopoint album, and will probably add some more later. Aloha!
