Moosehead Lager: not bad eh?

Bit expensive over here, but a good drop

I don’t care about it.

Pretty similar to mass-produced lagers from most places. If they sold it for the same price as Budweiser, I’d buy it occasionally, but it’s not worth the premium.

Just one man’s opinion.

Not bad.

I haven’t had Bud in ages. I remember it as being totally flavourless, but the Moosehead stuff seems to have some taste to it. Now I’m going to have to buy some Bud to compare to remind myself.

I’m sure Moosehead is better.

It’s just that now, “microbrews” have gotten so good, so well-established, so available.

It used to be useful to draw a distinction between things like Bud and Moosehead.

Now, the greatness of the micros has really relegated all the mass-produced stuff to the same class, and I don’t even worry about distinctions within that class any more.

There is a certain peppery hop flavour I do like about Moosehead, subtle and unfortunately evasive, which means my delight is hit or miss depending on what else is happening culinarily at the time.
Trunk’s comments are a good summation. But of all the mass market malted products it gets good marks.

You know how you can tell if someone’s had Moosehead?

Antler marks on their hips.

Moosehead is not bad. Note: this is not the same as saying it is good.

Yeah. I generally prefer ale, and lagers with more character, but it’s not bad, especially compared to some of its mass market competitors.

I remember well my favourite watering hole in Regina, back in the mid-nineties. One night my favourite waitress came up and said “Rube, we’re thinking of stocking Moosehead, but we wanted to check with you, first.” I gave my go ahead, and drank a lot of Moosehead afterwards, but it did give me the vague impression that maybe I was spending too much time there.

I used to love drinking Moosehead, for six months that’s all I drank, and then I got a skunky case.

It completely turned me off…now every time that I taste Moosehead I can taste that skunky flavour.

It’s a shame, I really enjoyed drinking it.

Moosehead is hardly distinguishable from your average American/Canadian-malted-rice-and-refined-sugar swill. A craft beer it most certainly is not.

I drank a lot of Moosehead in upstate NY growing up. It was better than Molson’s, but did have a reputation for getting skunky quickly. I think it was just heavily hopped and that sometimes got real assertive if it got light-struck.
