MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

It’s not just Vanilla raids–I was able to get into Tempest Keep just fine a couple of days ago. And one of the raid bosses I believe they’ve made more solo-friendly is Naj’entus, the first boss in Black Temple.

The stat inflation in Cataclysm and Mists is such that I’m pretty sure a well-geared 90 can solo up to Marrowgar in ICC. Possibly Deathwhisper too, and the only reason they can’t go much further is due to boss mechanics.

Haven’t tried it yet, but I intend to; I stopped raiding ICC only a bare few percentage points away from Exalted with the Ashen Verdict.

Getting into that SSC entrance portal has always been a little weird, at least for me. It’s usually like you said, its like there’s some invisible barrier in the way, and then all of a sudden you just walk right in.

Ran into an annoying glitch today trying to do the August Celestial dailies at the Crane Temple. The Students were unkillable. The daily requires you to “duel” 10 students, and normally when you reduce them to low health, they change from red to green, bow, and surrender, giving you quest credit for winning a duel.

Not so today. Burning them down to 1 hp only pissed them off. They’d keep fighting indefinitely, and it was impossible to beat them. Finally I just gave up and abandoned the quest.

I recommend it! I tried soloing ICC on my blood DK a few months before Mists dropped, and had fun but didn’t get further than Deathwhisper due to her pesky curse mechanics. I’m fairly sure that Gunship is a dealbreaker for soloing, though.

I didn’t see this in the patch notes (maybe I just missed it), but Wintergrasp has been upgraded! All of the Alliance and Horde NPCs that used to be level 76 are now level 88. Which came as a bit of a surprise when I took my level 90 tauren paladin there to do the PvP weekly quests. I had the quest to kill 10 Alliance, and the first two I saw, I hit one with Exorcism and the other with Judgment, expecting a pair of one-shot kills, and then suddenly found myself wondering why they weren’t dead and were trying to kill me :stuck_out_tongue: Not complaining, though - that quest now awards 75 honor points (83 with the BDL guild perk bonus), up from the old 24. I guess this also explains why I didn’t see WG in my level 88 hunter’s BG list - it’s been upgraded to a level 90 BG. Hmm, now that I think about it, I didn’t see Tol Barad listed either, so maybe it got an upgrade too. I’ll have to take a look.

Yep both WG and Tol Barad are now level 90 BGs and you can queue for them at the appropriate times, this makes me very happy I was a regular in both whenever I was on at 80 and 85. My Holy Paladin is 15% away from 90 so hopefully tonight he will be healing at a base, lots of fun until you get focus fired down.

The new Darkmoon Faire carousel gives a 10% xp and reputation boost from quests and kills. Comes in quite handy if you’re leveling or doing dailies.

My human rogue finally hit Revered with Golden Lotus last night, and had enough Valor saved up (entirely from doing dailies) to buy the 489 shoulders!

I must have tunnel-visioned my way through the DMF on the characters I took there yesterday - I didn’t even see this!

Man, it sucks waking up at 4:30AM (for no apparent reason) on my day off, only to realize it’s Maintenance Tuesday and I’ve got 6 and a half hours to kill before I can play WoW

Hey, my friends!

My monitor died day before yesterday, but yesterday Dondra gave me an early Christmas present: A new 32" Sylvania which has great graphics. My previous one was a Proscan 28".

Before we settled on a price: ($209.00 - 120 days SAC), the guy asked me a strange question which I couldn’t answer, so I thought I’d post it here: Is WoW “broadcast” (don’t know a better word) in High Def?

WoW looks so much better than previously, and I really like that the action is bigger since my eyesight is slowly going (macular degeneration).

So is it HD, or is there another tech term I am missing?

Also my video card (6 years old Nvidia 9600GT) is beginning to rattle when I boot up, so I’ll be in the market for a new one soon. This one has been great, even though I need to upgrade it quite frequently.

Thanks

Quasi

Well, a computer monitor is already more HD than a television, even, I think, a HDTV screen. So I’d say “yes”, though it’s not the same tech as actual HDTV.

Hi Q long time no see, hope you are well.

As MisterRik says the it is not quite the same thing as TV tech but wow has a selection of resolutions it can be payed in, and some of them would be considered HD if you talked in TV terms. Maybe all of them?? Not sure about that. Computer monitors have been ‘HD’ for way longer than TVs.

My paladin has dinged 90 and started to PvP in his new Transmog gear, looking fabulous even if I do say so myself: World of Warcraft

I realize the answer to this is probably “Contact Blizzard,” but I thought I’d ask here anyway. Since this is the Week Where Nothing Happens at work, I’m trying to install WoW, but the installer won’t start.

It shows up on the screen, says initializing, and then nothing. I went to the forums and they all say to delete all folders of Blizzard/WoW and then re-install, but that didn’t help either.

Also, FTR I’ve had WoW on this machine before and the powers that be don’t care, so they aren’t blocking it. Does anyone have any ideas?

I managed to hit Exalted reputation with the Shado-pan with my main, that gave me the 25 Exalted Reputations achievement. It also opened up the final series of quests with the Shado-pan, which got me the Defender of Gods achievement as well as the Ebon Cloud Serpent.

Possibly the best part of gaining Exalted rep with the Shado-pan is that it allowed me to buy a Replica Shado-pan helmet, which I could use to make my ugly helmet look less ugly. That, combined with a few other selective transmogrifications, means she’s stylin’. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/cairne/Kalathan/simple

Yeah, there’s so error message or anything, so it’s too vague for us to figure out. Blizzard Support has the diagnostic tools to help you out.

You’re not running Kaspersky Internet Security on this machine by any chance, are you? I’ve got it on mine, and sometimes (not always, but sometimes) I’ll have to disable it before a patch or other update can successfully download. An install isn’t the same as a patch, but both should be downloading information from the Blizzard server.

I don’t, but I think I figured it out! I kept going through forum posts until someone linked to a download of the .tfil file that made it start right up! Thanks for the help though. It’s pretty nice to play it on my massive screens.

Grats that is a pretty nice look, I like those helms. If I could face the grind to exalted from Revered I would have one too but I can’t so…

I have been working on my rogue’s transmog before levelling him up from 85, one has to look smart ganking people, should finish it off tonight I think. Hopefully the armory will update to reflect it, very slow at the moment.

Dumb Death of the Day:

Picture my rogue standing on the edge of a cliff.

Picture my rogue summoning her flying mount.

Picture my rogue noticing that her poisons had expired.

Picture my rogue dismounting to reapply her poisons.

Picture my rogue then forgetting she’d dismounted and running straight off the cliff.
Oh yeah, three level 90s now - human rogue, tauren paladin, and nelf hunter.
On another note, I’m really hoping that Blizz can figure out what’s causing the abyssmal performance on Macs. I’m dealing with 12-17 FPS in most Pandaria zones, even with every single graphics setting on “Low” or “Disabled”. I’d put it down to my iMac being 4 years old, but apparently even people with brand new Macs are having the same problem.

I may end up switching to playing on my $400 Toshiba Windows 7 laptop. I’ve installed the game there and experimented a bit, and so far the performance is just amazing in comparison.

Also, The Glenlivet is a wonderful single malt
