MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

Rather embarassingly, I discovered Wednesday night that my main toon had somehow managed to miss all three of the series of quests that feature Chen Stormstout, his niece Li Li, and Larry the Cable guy – er, I mean Mudmug. I only discovered this by accident while working on levelling another toon.

So I went back to the Valley with my main BE Paladin, and finished all three quest series (Chen’s Masterpiece, Mudmug’s Place and The Stormstout Brewery), plus additional quests at the village of Stoneplow. That got me the Savoir of Stoneplow, Rally the Valley, and Loremaster of Pandaria achievements.

Anybody checking out the new stuff coming in Patch 5.2? 12 new raid bosses, 2 more world bosses, assorted buffs & nerfs, a new island that has to be unlocked by your faction on each server, new mounts, etc.

I need more ways to get a decent weapon on my mage. That slot is the only one I need for the Mystically Epic achievement, and I think the only ways I can get it are via raid drop or pvp purchase. I’m still about 1750 conquest points this season away from being eligible to buy a pvp weapon, and I run raid finder every week for the bosses that could drop a weapon, but no luck so far.

My druid is 88 now, mostly running as boomkin. Did a few random dungeons as a healer, but I’m really not very good at it. Moving out of bad stuff, keeping tank up, and trying not to let anyone else die is more complicated than the dps role I usually play.

Once I get the druid up, I’ll start on my paladin, probably as ret…though I may try my hand at tanking to see how it goes.

I’m looking forward to the farm changes. I’ll be able to use my Master Plow to plow the !@#$ out of those virmen in the Occupied Soil, and Wild crops are going to spawn less frequently.

I just realized last night that, because my Horde main is Exalted with her Lvl 25 guild and was able to purchase a Kor’kron Annihilator, all of my guildless Alliance toons are able to access the Golden King. Too cool…

Now all we need to do is get that scarecrow in the field to actually work so we don’t have to worry about those damn birds stealing our stuff, too.

Mister Rik introduced me to the farm part, and I’m having fun with that. I also work with my Rogue Waldteufel and I have fun with him, his pick-pocketing and his poisons. Sometimes I forget what each of them can do, and I look for the “disappear” button for Wolkie.

Can Rik invite Wally to our guild? That way, I can earn points with both of my toons.

Thanks

As someone who wasn’t around for Ahn’Qiraj or Quel’Danas…I WANTSES. The gradual building of your faction stronghold in 5.1 was cool, but it’s just a phased thing for individuals, not a server-wide thing.

Had a joined-in-progress Terrace of Endless Spring run today. Only got in for the last two bosses, but the RNG Gods smiled, and Jin’ya, Orb of the Waterspeaker is mine.

Struck a blow for the Alliance today. An orc DK showed up in Half Hill. Flagged. Bad idea. I got the jump on him with Frozen Orb and Frost Bomb, the he popped Army of the Dead. So my pet cast Frost Nova to hold his zombies in place while I popped Icy Veins to burn him down.

For Gnomeregan!

I am having the worst luck with RNG. I’m still 1/5 Tier pieces, and ever since I got the Heroic legs from Sha of Anger, I’ve gotten the lfr legs and the heroic legs a total of 6 times. I haven’t seen another token or sha-touched weapon and I spend all my re-rolls every week. RNG hates me this xpac.

I went ahead and upgraded those legs using VP since they’ll be with me for a long long time, but a 2pc set would increase my dps a bit. Probably enough that I’d take the downgrade on ilvl for the 2pc bonus.

My guild has progressed to Wind Lord Mel’sumthin. Hoping to get him down tonight. Not sure we’ll be up to ToeS by the time the next raids come out.

Need someone to invite my Rogue “Waldteufel” to our guild “Knights Who Say Ja”, so that his points can go to the guild. Thanks, Y’all and Happy New Year!

Quasi, have you tried running scenarios yet? They’re like mini-dungeons for three level 90 characters in any class combination. You get a loot bag for finishing one, with gold, Valor Points, and a chance of a useable item…

Well, Wolkie’s only level 87, and Wally’s just 46, so no, Oak’ I haven’t got there yet, but I will keep it in mind, thanks!

Q

I’ve been logged in on Nouveus every day looking for you, but you haven’t been there. I added Waldteufel to his friends list so that I’d see if you were logged in on that character.

Also, I just transferred my lvl 90 rogue, Theloise (she used to be Thelois, but I had to add the “e” to the end because there was already another Thelois on Axexstrasza) over to Alexstrasza, since she’s the character I’m spending most of my time on and I figure she may as well be contributing to the guild (she wasn’t in a guild on Wyrmrest Accord). So she’ll need an invite as well. And she can open all those lockboxes you’ve got sitting around, if you still have them (she opened 25 of them for Nouveus). She also has Wolkie and Wally on her friends list, so she’ll see you on either character.

My rogue is an interesting illustration of the ability to make gold in MoP. I spent all of Cataclysm building her bank up to about 35k gold, which already made her my richest character. Then I built her bank all the way up to 65k just in the first four months of MoP. She blew 15k of that buying one of those Miniature Winter Veil Tree daggers off the AH, then made over 5k back in short order. I ended up having to dump several thousand gold off onto one of my alts on Wyrmrest Accord, since a server transfer will only let you take 50k with you.

Thanks to Mister Rik!

So we now get 15 minute hearths!

We also added a couple of his alts and my alt rogue Waldteufel to the guild, so we can kick some real ass now.

Wally is in a place I have never seen before. It’s called “Fuselight” and is a lot of fun. He’s now a level 45.

I am also learning to use the top row of numbers as actions, because Rik says I’m gonna need to start using those for Wolkie for level 90. He’s (Wolkie) at 87.

That’s an update from the “Ja” boys!

PS: That’s some cool music at Fuselight!

Heh…I do love the goblin music. It’s so bouncy and cheerful!

ETA: Not enough to go through the goblin starting phasing again, though. Making the goblin and worgen starting areas railroaded phase areas was still a bad idea, IMO.

What???

Q

When Cata added the goblin and worgen races, they made both starting areas a) longer than the usual starting areas (you usually don’t finish the starting zones and go out into the real world until you’re lvl 13 or 14), b) completely phased…you can’t get there from here if you’re not a newborn gob or worg, and c)railroaded…if you don’t complete every quest hub in the chosen order, you’ll never get out of the starting area phasing. If you accidentally forget to turn in a quest at a hub that you’ve moved on from, you’ll never get to complete that quest. The first couple of times through, they’re both GREAT starting areas! After that it gets a bit stale.

This is also true, I wanted to add, about the pandaren starting zone, the Wandering Isle.

Thanks, my friend, for explaining. As I told Rik last night, the game is much more fun now that I know its mechanics better.

I also never knew about the equipment/wardrobe manager. What a cool thing to play with!

That’s another instance of Blizzard incorporating popular add-ons into the game. There used to be an add-on called “Dressing Room” (I think) that did that, back before Blizzard added it in.
