MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

So I still haven’t done Setting the Trap and all those other quests on the Isle even though I have 3 Ritual Stones. Or are those something different? I dunno, but general chat gets spammed with people LFG for them and socially awkward penguin just ignores them.

Also: You’re looking for reliable people who show up on time (time being 15 min before scheduled start time) to raid? Great! But when I show up 15 min ahead of time, I expect to either get an invite, or a whisper telling me I’ve been benched for the night. Don’t bitch in Vent about not being able to find anyone who shows up on time when I’m sitting there waiting for an invite or a whisper and never getting one. I would have chewed you out, but I’m new to the guild and I only know one person in the leadership and she wasn’t there that night. I’ll take it up with her when I see her next.

Finally got around to joining a Sha group for the first time last night. Did it on my spriest, the only one of my 90s (of the four who’ve tried) who has not yet gotten loot from Galleon. She got a nice pair of gloves.

What day of the week do these rares (Sha and Galleon) reset for loot purposes? My priest got a bag of gold from Galleon last week, so I figured she’d have a chance at loot when she tried again on Sunday, but she got nothing. I need to get that addon that tells you if you’re eligible for loot. I feel rude when I inadvertently take a raid spot from somebody who might have been eligible.

Tuesday, just like regular raids. They’re considered world raid bosses (Oondasta too).

Thanks

At least on my server, the “Stone Cold” daily is bugged. No one can interact with or kill the guardian lion statues, which means we can’t get to the Stage 3 dailies unlocked yesterday.

I did the Thunder Isle PvP assignments (Alliance) today on both my hunter and my rogue. It turned out to be a lot easier than I was expecting. Not sure if Alexstrasza simply has a microscopic Horde population or what, but between the two characters only my hunter ended up mixing it up with (read: got rolfstomped by) a Horde player. Twice. I will tip my hat to the guy, though. He killed me the first time, I ran back to my corpse and razzed, then sat down to eat. The Horde player returned, and politely waited for me to finish eating my way back to full health before he attacked me again.

Meanwhile, my rogue ended up grouped with a shaman, which speeded things up. We didn’t encounter a single flagged Horde player.

It was kind of fun doing level-appropriate quests for my Honor Points for a change. As opposed to being level 90 doing the quests in Grizzly Hills.

“Tear Down The Wall Quest” on Thunder Isle is too difficult for me on Wolkie. It’s supposed to be a one-player scenario too.

Also, I have the key to Lo-Shein’s palace, but haven’t done it yet. Difficult?

For right now, I’m staying with the easy stuff like farming.

PS: Also, why is one of my alts sending me mageweave cloth? Waldteufel sent this to me today?

If you don’t remember sending it to Wolkie from Waldteufel, it’s possible that Wolkie sent it to Waldteufel a month ago (to level up his First Aid, maybe) and you forgot it was in Waldie’s mailbox. If it sat in there for a month, it would get sent back to Wolkie and show up as having come from Waldie.

Ah! Of course! I remember now. I sent him a bunch of cloths and haven’t played him since then. So he sent them back, did he, that lazy ungrateful bastard?

Thanks jay and thanks too for helping to level us up so fast (Level 16 almost!)

Well, I’ve been having fun doing it, so everybody’s happy. I’ll be back tomorrow night…had to cancel my subscription on Monday because of a small funds gap that will be rectified when I get paid tomorrow.

The 11-17 FPS I get in certain Pandaria zones (even with all my graphics settings on “Low”) has made it pretty clear that my iMac is probably not going to handle the next expansion well at all. It doesn’t help that my video card already isn’t on the “officially supported” list for MoP.

So I’m looking to buy myself a proper Windows gaming computer. Not just for WoW, but for other games I’d like to fool with. I already have a Windows 7 laptop that, while being a cheapie, handles MoP just fine and runs other MMOs like Rift, LotRO, and Champions Online reasonably well. Problem is that I find playing on a laptop to be an unpleasant experience, so I’d like to get a desktop. I suppose I could just get a monitor and hook it up to the laptop. I’m already using a separate keyboard and mouse with it, so with an external monitor I guess it would work as a “virtual” desktop PC.

Still, I’d rather have something more “cutting edge”, but affordable. I’ve been looking at this outfit: http://www.ibuypower.com/lobby.aspx

Anybody have experience with them? I can’t afford anything right now, but I’m kind of looking around for future reference. In the meantime I guess I could still get that external monitor for the laptop, since I’ll need the monitor anyway when I get a tower.

I’m playing an IBUY, Rik. Bought it in 2006 specifically for gaming. It is an NZXT and here’s what it has onboard:

Well, today I learned what I don’t think I want to try again. Joined an Oondasta (something like that…big ass dinosaur) raid. Wasted about three hours while the damn thing formed, and finally pulled with about 3.5-4 raids. Wipefest. Got about 3 pulls in, all miserable failures. Our tanks could not position the mob worth a damn. On the second pull, they dropped it right on top of the graveyard.

On the up side, I hit exalted with the Kirin Tor Offensive, and bought the dino-mount.

… could use one or two more Dopers as guild members. (Those of you who joined way back are still on the guild list, and can come back anytime - I know you guys moved on and I appreciate y’all helping us get the guild going:)).

Other than me, we have three members: jackaroe, jayjay and Mister Rik and we’re currently at Level 16 guild-wise. We have 3 vaults in the guild bank and more than enough gold.

I know it’s a headache levelling up, so it’s doubly appreciated.

I’m looking forward to being able to do Raids, something I’ve never been able to do before due to not being able to understand my function and this is why I thought my Doper friends would be ideal if we get a few more onboard.

Think about it, and even if you join and find you don’t have time or don’t like it you can leave with no hard feelings - promise.

Thanks!

Man…just did the quest in Townlong where you have to soak the bugs in beer to take out their shields. Why is it so freaking hard to aim a freaking barrel?!

I found that quest painful in many respects. You have to aim the barrel with disturbingly exacting care. Then you have to wait for some unknown archer to hit one of the now beer-soaked bugs with a flame arrow and the entire volatile puddle to catch. Then you want to look very closely at the bugs’ buff bars to make sure they’ve lost their damage reduction buff. Otherwise, you will literally be there 15 minutes trying to beat them down through the buff. With crap spawning in around you the whole time.

Needless fidgety mechanics, and not much of a benefit in leveling, IMHO. Not looking forward to figuring out how to do that with four other alts, in classes I don’t play very much.

It’s really disheartening to watch your fourth barrel in a row, which you THOUGHT you had aimed exactly right, roll in between two bugs and explode 30 feet past them, soaking half an acre of empty grass.

Hey Quasi, have you done any LFR? (Looking For Raid) It’s a good way to experience the current raids without needing 9 friends who have to coordinate. If not, and you only want to experience the sheer size of the raids and their bosses, you can now solo (or duo) a bunch of the older raids.

But if you’re intent on trying some of the stuff that is current that would be a bit tougher. I’d suggest we get 10 people/friends and go into MSV (Mogu-shan Vaults - the first raid in MoP) via cross-realm. (just need to share RealIDs)
Depending on the time you want to do it, I’m in!

Curious glitch: My rogue received a letter from Agent Donnelly, mentioning her finding him in the Deeprun Tram. Two days later, she got the actual quest to locate him. Very odd. I wondered at first if it was because she had started doing the Isle of Thunder quests and the game just assumed somehow that she’d already done the Operation: Shieldwall storyline, but it appears it was just a glitch. I’ve finally gotten around to getting serious about Operation: Shieldwall on all four of my Alliance 90s, and all four have now done that specific quest. My remaining three 90s didn’t get the letter until after they did the quest.

Meanwhile, I’m also doing the Isle of Thunder PvP quests on all four characters. Alliance on Lightbringer apparently opened up the third stage some time yesterday. My priest, who had already been doing the quests for a few days and had completed the first two solo scenarios, got there and just jumped right into the daily quests. But then a bit later I took my paladin there for the first time, and she had to start right off by doing three consecutive solo scenarios before she could do the dailies. So I guess my priest will have that third scenario waiting for her when she logs in today. Meanwhile, I’m not sure what the status is yet on Alexstrasza, where my rogue and hunter reside. They’ve both done the first two scenarios.

One of the PvP dailies is called “Made for War”, where you have to take out a big, tough, construct. I found it completely impossible to solo when I tried it on my priest, and as near as I can tell the vast majority of players are doing the PvE dailies, so it’s kind of hard to get a group for it. So I end up skipping that quest, which means that I don’t get the bonus satchel + 50 Conquest Points after turning in all the dailies. My hunter or rogue might be able to manage it, but my paladin still needs to gear up more, being my most recent 90.

Looks like the tensions are ramping up quite a bit in patch 5.3:
