Yes that was me trying to show my funny side for the people that got it. The problem is I am being serious but it if people want take things as a joke it just shows their moral judgement.
Obviously the solution to this dilemma is to revert humanity to a stage of non-consciousness. If we aren’t aware that we are killing things to eat to survive, then it can’t be a bad thing, right? Otherwise, every living animal on this planet (and even some bacteria, plants and fungi) is evil to the core for killing and eating other things to survive
I wonder if the OP has as big an issue with the harvesting of trees for construction/building puposes? From where I’m sitting now I wouldn’t have to move more than a foot in most directions before encountering something made of wood (including the framing of the house). If collecting & eating vegetables is wrong what about killing trees for shelter? Clearing and felling operations are notorius for grinding up small, fluffy animals.
Should we all be living in naturally occuring caves?
JeallyBeanz, if you want to establish that your ideas are moral, you’re going to have to show that you are basing your opinions on sound science (so far, it’s not even close) and that they make sense (that’s not going well either). What is your alternative to eating meat and plants? I understand the vat-grown meat concept. The idea has been around for years as a thought exercise and it seems to be inching closer to reality. I don’t know what we’re supposed to do about vegetables in this scenario. Give them up forever? Just eat nuts and berries? I have a feeling that’s not going to be very healthy. And you also haven’t explained what we’re supposed to do in the meantime.
I went through a fruitarian phase, myself, years ago.
As long as you get enough fat, it’s not the worst diet you can eat. (avocadoes/olives/coconuts being the main fat sources)
the lack of minerals, in the long run, will cause problems, though. You have to supplement with minerals, mainly calcium, magnesium, and the trace minerals.
FWIW, thanks; I’d never heard of the “strandbeest,” and quite enjoyed learning.
re the actual point, I might agree with you in the most abstruse and abstract hypothetical and perfect moral fashion. But in terms of what can be attained in practical reality? I’d also like to be rid of war, and crime, and disease, and live in a world where everyone gets along in peace, and where logic and reason replace mythology and emotion as the basis for large-scale decision-making.
That ain’t gonna happen either.
My advice would be to look for a moral cause that you can actually have a chance of winning, or where you can make a difference. Volunteer at a center for rescued animals, for instance: you’d be reducing the overall amount of real pain in the world.
I’ve found the solution. I’ve entered into a contract with all life forms such that I agree to, upon my own death, before embarking unto any heavenly realms, experience the death circumstances of any life forms I eat (or otherwise contribute to or partially bear responsibility for the death of). If they have encountered any suffering in the process of becoming my sustenance, I will fully share in that suffering. It’s only fair.
So, amusing games of Poke The Troll aside, I’m actually curious about something:
Vat grown meat and veg…where do they get the proteins/fats/carbs for these things to assemble into foodish forms? I presume they have to come from dead things, yes? So even if the VatSteak with VatFries you wish to enjoy become a reality, it’s still going to require killing things to pit into the Vat to make it.
So yes, the best solution is probably to kill yourself and end your murderous rampage. Except, of course, that if you die, the millions of microbes living in and on you will die too. You bastard.
