More curious than committed....

I have been throwing ideas for movie scripts around (yes that is what i try to do at least) and a few thoughts came up. What i’d like to know, is if these certain ideas carry any weight, coming from a critical standpoint. Would my ideas, if fleshed out, work or reek?
Generalities:

-A movie that can never be sequel’ized, meaning it would never work to make another of that type. (Yes, it would not get me any more money, but it would never experience overkill and thus make it a better movie…different views?)
-A movie that digs deeper into the thoughts and emotions of man, in such ways as can be invented for the cinema. (By invented i mean, revolutionized. Because personally, i wan’t character driven stories…)
-A movie that can be rewatched. (As to get more out of it than one first thought)
Specifics:

-Something dealing with hope amidst ‘inner’ termoil

-The protagonist doesn’t win, but comes into better light of reality and undergoes a realistic change

-In the end, you wonder why it had to go so badly, but feel peace at the same time…

-Something smart while still being enjoyable
Just some not real specific thoughts. What i want is a piece that draws from familiar concepts of emotion and brings them into an original piece of work. I want this to be my ‘masterpiece’ so to speak. Please let some comments fly…And yes…i believe these characteristics can happen in a movie…

You just described “Pulp Fiction”. Worked for him!

Waterworld.

I kept thinking of Pi reading your OP. Definitely no sequel potential, the main character does come out a bit better in the end, but has to go through DRASTIC measures in order to get there; it’s an enjoyable film, and definitely worth watching multiple times; and it’s character driven and deals with his inner turmoil. So, it’s definitely possible.

The concept doesn’t sound impossible. Jacob’s Ladder, The Sixth Sense, Awakenings, and Shine more or less fit your description.

yes and there are some obvious pitfalls along the way that i will no doubt succomb to. Anyone have any suggestions as to what i should be careful or wary of doing? Basically, what will get me killed before i get born. (pardon the strange metaphor)

sorry… cant help ya out… but if you click on the link, you can read people mulling and examining films.
movies that i have to watch over again (like how you said above) are ones filled with symbolism. they are like a puzzle. one catch watch it on different levels…

I’m not quite sure what you’re after, especially after reading the replies. Are you asking for movies that embody these characteristics, or are you seeking a vehicle for your ideas and asking if it would feasibly make a film?

If the latter, a book by John Crowley entitled Little, Big would fit your criteria.

It is definitely a self-contained story that most inarguably ends at the end, so no sequels.

It’s got plenty to offer in terms of emotional exploration.

The complexity and depth of the novel is such that each repeat read has (for me, at least) revealed things the earlier ones missed; in fact, that’s almost an integral aspect of its structure.

Your specifics are all there in spades, as well.

I’m not sure how well a movie of it would come out, but I’d love to see a good one. It’s truly an amazing book, as well as my personal favorite.

see that’s what i would like in ‘my movies’ so to speak…i would would like none of it to suffer or lose its potency from adaptation of any source material…basically, i have millions of ideas floating in my head, but i don’t want to just copy the next movie out there either…
Perhaps another, more apt question to ask is what type of movie have you been dying to see for a long time?
