I’d have to say Steve Martin or George Wendt - although I would like to see SEAN CONNERY do it! (things Trebek sucks…)

Boy its a SNL epidemic!
I would have to say the best host was the one who hosted Jan.15,1977.
I know you don’t remember, but I sure do; it was Ralph Nader.
I’m a big giant huge George Wendt fan, and he’s the only one who can say “The Bears” the way I like to hear.
Britney Spears kinda surprised me. Her “bad mouseketeer” was sorta kinda amusing.
Christopher Walken with that continential character. Sweet God, what perfection.
Jackie Chan, especially when he did the Nick Burns skit.
Best skit, yes. The Continent is funny and clever enough to guarantee repeated viewings.
Best show? I’m not sure. I remember a very good one with Harvey Keitel (and Madonna as musical guest, singing “How Old Are You Now” to Chelsea Clinton). The skit where Harvey tries to take a dump in the restaurant’s bathroom is a classic.
Kevin Spacey, I even taped it when he was doing all the ‘tryouts’ for Star Wars. He was hilarious. Though, the skit you mentioned with Christopher Walken does crack me up, his hosting was just okay.
This particular Chris Walken show was the one with the completely unfunny “The Cuban Boy” musical. Ew. Just made me hate Rachel Dratch even more.
But there was an earlier CW-hosted SNL, where Walken played a James Bond villain. THAT one was damn funny.
Kyle McClanahan, probably misspelled. They did a hilarious parody of Twin Peaks with him.
And there was also the “Hello… I’m K.D. Lang…” song he did.
Buck Henry was really good, as he had not Star Attitude. he was one of the group.
ANyone recall Uncle Roy?
Best Guest Hosts:
Steve Martin - Never an unfunny show with him!
Alec Baldwin - You wouldn’t immediately think so, but the guy is just hilarious!! All his shows are excellent. “The Mimic” is the BEST EVER…I have it on tape and still crack up every time I watch.
Tom Hanks, Paul Simon, Buck Henry - There is a reason those guys did so many guest host turns…they are just awesome. “Mr. Short Term Memory” is a good Tom Hanks recurring skit, all the Samurai skits where Buck Henry was the straight man to Belushi’s samurai were classic. “Samurai Delicatessen”, anyone?
I want to see Dana Carvey come back to do some George W. impressions.
That would be excellent.
Ditto on Alec Baldwin. His canteen boy sketch with Adam Sandler was hysterical.
His Tiny Elvis is the single funniest thing ever on SNL - Rob Schneider ruined it later.
Another vote for Christopher Walken. “The Continental” is one of the funniest skits of all time.
I also liked Patrick Swayze. His duel between Latin crooners with Dana Carvey was great, as was his Chippendale’s try out skit with Chris Farley, and his bit with Hanz and Franz was classic.
This thread reminded me of when Howard Cosell was the host back in the mid-80s. That was hilarious…he played Ed Grimley’s uncle Basil, complete with hair spike…he announced the “Run Throw and Catch Like A Girl Olympics”…the talk show with Dr. Ruth and Dr. Seuss (played by Rich Hall)…oh, it was killer.
Nancy Kerrigan.
Bawahahhahhaa!!!
I have two favorites:
James Woods. The police SWAT team invading his opening monologue. Also, when he plays Dracula, searching for an HIV-negative girl.
William Shatner. The famous trekkie-convention “Get a life!” speech. Also, a hilarious T.J. Hooker spoof.
That skit with C.W. with “Don’t fear the reaper”. (He plays a producer for Blue Oyster Cult)
The funniest SNL line in my recent memory:
“I’ve got a fever and the only perscription is more cowbell”
Oh, no! That is funny.
And yet, so true.
Another vote for Christopher Walken…the Continental has to be the funniest skit of all time (Next to Celebrity Jeopardy, of course) Another one of the better skits was where Tim Meadows came to his door as a census taker. “You have a bobcat in there?!?” Hehehe…
