More unexpected ways you've injuried yourself

I know we’ve done this before, but what’s the newest, unexpected way you’ve injured yourself?

Tonight I replaced the shower curtain rod, and while not as easy as 1-2-3 like the directions promised, it didn’t go badly. However, the new rod came with its own caps for the ends, so I decided to fit the one that come off the old rod back onto it before finding a place for it to live. And as I held the old rod to do so, the inner part of the rod unexpectedly extended and put a 1/2 inch gash in my foot. Ouch.
So what injuries didn’t you anticipate lately?

Tennis elbow from playing banjo. (tendonitis)

Punched my dorm room’s window while sleeping next to it. In a boarding school, during a thunderstorm. Did not wake up until the dorm mom(also the on-site nurse) came to check on the noise. Cue in a crazy ride to the ER and 37 stitches.

Many years later, I’ve a very suicidal-looking scar on the lower right arm, and a few smaller scars on the hand to show for it.

I was going to use my small chain saw to cut a branch off a tree in my back yard. I’ve cut many branches and know you have to calculate how they’ll fall so they don’t come down on top of you. I do that. Also, I’m on the 2nd step of a step ladder. About 2 to 2 1/2 feet off the ground. I also know you’re not to use a chain saw above you head. Check. The branch is out in front of me. So I reach out cut the branch which is about 4" in diameter. Branch falls as calculated… however, the small branches away from the thick part I cut… they’re like springs… they hit the ground, the whole thing bounces up and here comes the 4" log like section I just cut toward my face. In 1/2 second time… I toss the chain saw as far as I can. I don’t have time to raise my hands in self defense and the log hits me in the forehead, eyebrow and cheekbone below the eye. Knocks me straight back, off the ladder onto the ground landing on my upper back.

I’m fine. Have a sore face. Little or no cut. An hour later I have a black eye like you’ve never seen. Next morning totally black, maroon and yellowish above and below my eye. Eyeball is fine.

Watch those bouncing branches.
