This time it’s a behind the scenes bit, interlaced with some old footage and a few new bits. Ain’t it Cool to the rescue.
Once again, Mr. Snyder shows us that he loves the source material, and is taking everything very seriously as far as translation. He’s got some balls to do what everyone else said was impossible, and I hope he gets the accolades he deserves for bringing so much care to this project.
I’m still utterly geeked about seeing this, but am unsure about the deal with the Fox/Warner legal issues. Any resident attorney types want to take a stab at figuring out if and when this movie is going to hit theater screens?
That’s all for me tonight; it’s off to bed now. Will be back tomorrow to discuss further.
I’ve decided not to watch any more Watchmen trailers. I don’t see the point. I already know I’m going to go see this movie on opening night, and I’m already excited about. No reason to have any more info given away to me than necessary. I will also be striving to avoid reviews before it’s released.
I had not heard about the legal issues, however. This scares me. Give me my damn movie!
EW magazine had a small blurb about the lawsuits - apparently Jan 20th is the trial date. I hope we get a sense of whether the March release date is going to actually happen sometime soon…
So, like, is it the 20th yet? jitters from needing a fix I’ll be pissed as it is if anything happens to screw this up, but I need to know one way or the other!
I’m hitting up Ain’t it Cool about three times a day - I figure they’ll be the ones to break it when something does happen. You guys know that once I hear it, I’ll be letting y’all know!
At the risk of having to permanently turn in my fanboy card, I wasn’t aware it was even close to being released. So now, I’m excited. And the link did a great job of whetting my appetite to see it. The only thing that worries me is that the actors playing the Silk Spectre and Ozymandias, don’t gibe with my expectatation. Ozy looks like a skinny wimp, and the Spectre looks too … cardboardy (yes, I get to make up my own words). But it’s just a trailer, so of course I’ll withhold judgment.
CalMeacham, you are officially my hero of the day! Thanks so much for that. (See what happens? I tell everyone I’ll scour for updates, and the updates happen while I’m posting here. Good grief!)
I’ve read Watchmen countless times since I bought the TPB when I was in middle school (1997) and I couldn’t conceivably be less excited about the movie than I am right now.
I think it looks like Warner Bros. is in a precarious legal position. One hopes that they can throw a couple million settlement to Fox and make it go away quickly. It looks to this completely untrained legal mind that it’s going to come down to how evil Fox wants to be about it. If Fox keeps this movie from being released, I will personally fly to Hollywood and kick all of their executives in the balls (assuming they have balls).
Fox v. Warner is, IIRC, the same brain trust that has kept the Batman TV series from being released on DVD, so I have very little faith in this being resolved either amicably or quickly.
I’m looking forward to it with cautious optimism. I still like the first trailer best, though, very moody and dreary.
And I’m still working on a script for Muppet Watchmen, dammit. Dr. Gonzo! (“Camilla! I was only trying to please you!”) Fozzimandius! Frogshach! You wanna see it. Admit it.
