Morgan Freeman injured in auto accident

Holy crap! Morgan Freeman is 71?!

I heard this earlier today, and he’s been in my best thoughts since.

Freeman moved back to Mississippi a couple of years before I moved out, building a house where his family once lived on the Delta bluffs. It’s a nice house, but not a gianormous one. He and his wife have contributed a lot to the area in the Arts scene, and the blues club he built in Clarksdale was at just the right time, when the main Blues proprietor/ do all guy had moved on to Kansas City. It helped to affirm and revitalize Clarksdale. From friend’s accounts, he’s a pretty low key guy who puts his money to good causes for his homestate. No hubbub like Brangelina moving to NOLA to do good.

Such a tremendous A-List solid actor, a great talent. He’s in my best prayers tonight.

GAH!!!

A couple million invested with a 10 percent return (assuming 2 million) will get you about 80,000* spendable a year after taxes. Maybe. So just cause someone has a million does not mean that they can run around buying Lamborghini’s every week.

I am very glad to hear he is basically ok. He is one of my favorite actors and seems like a heck of a nice guy as well. I can’t think of a movie he has been in that I don’t like.

  • 200,000 is the return on 2 million at 10%. out of that 200,000 you take off 60,000 to keep up with inflation. Inflation runs ~3% when it is low. 3% of 1 million is 30,000. To keep the same buying power you have to pump 30,000 per million back to principle. So if you have 200,000 earned off of 2 mil, you have to put 60,000 of your 200,000 back into investments. That leaves 140. Taxes eat up another 50 or so. If you have an investment guy they take some off the top. So pretty soon you are down to 80 or 90,000. A decent amount of money but not a huge amount.

Why are you assuming he only has ‘a couple million’? He’s not in the first tier of moneymakers by any stretch, but his asking price per movie is at least $5M - $10M – and the dude makes a lot of movies.

I bet he’s invested it wisely, too. (Why? Because he’s Morgan bloody Freeman, that’s why. How could I think otherwise?)

It’s nice to see y’all appreciatin’ a Southern male. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t like Morgan Freeman. I hope this doesn’t affect his golf game too much.

Turns out the woman in the car may be his girlfriend. He and his wife are separated and in process of divorce (and were before the accident). When they married 24 years ago he was a frequently employed actor but far from a star- his fame and multimillion dollar paychecks came later- so it’s probably going to be a rather expensive divorce settlement. (Of course the nice thing about making $5-$10 million per film is that it doesn’t take too long to build it back up.)

Maybe his estranged wife will rush down to be at his bedside, and realize that she couldn’t imagine life without him and they’ll reconcile.

Hey, it happened in ‘Bruce Almighty,’ and we all know who coordinated that reconciliation.

Just heard the divorce news…thought for a minute she had decided to divorce him after finding out he’s tooling around town with another woman at 1 am, but it seems they’ve been separated for a while. Isn’t it odd how we get all the news about his injuries, but no one mentions what injuries the woman in the car with him had…

I found one that mentions her injuries were minor. The rest ignored her completely- she could have chipped a fingernail or her head could have rolled across a continent and landed in Mariska Hargitay’s lap for all the news sources apparently knew or cared.

So, the more money you have, the less money you have?

Sucks.

Doubtful, considering that the gal is her friend… oops… :frowning:

Or WAS her friend, I suppose…

Damn ambulance chasers. They’re a few days late.

I heard it was in LA and Engelbert Humperdinck died in the crash.

No but seriously. He’s fine.

Humperdink didn’t die…but did catch cold

This was SO evil…

Oh snap - you wrong for that!
