Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance has suprised the hell out of me.

This game is SO much better than I had expected. I bought Mech Assault and hated it (I play GR online and MA just doesn’t compare IMHO) so I returned it and decided to grab MK just because I used to love fighting games and haven’t bought one in years due to the fact that I am not into the 3-d fighters ala VF, Tekken, etc…

Boy am I glad I did. They did a great job on this game. It’s one of the first 3-D fighters I have played where fighting the computer is challenging but fair. The graphics are great, the sounds are great (especially the crypt. Turn it up and let it sit in your living room and scare people with the screams and mice and stuff coming out of your surround). I think the 3 fighthing styles thing adds a new element and the weapons are implimented perfectly. Even with the new (great) fighting engine you can still feel that it is MK and not Tekken or a SF clone.

My only complaints about this game are that after you throw a projectile (ala Scorpians spear) you stay in the animation a little too long if you miss. I know you pay the price if you miss when throwing a projectile and that is expected, but if you miss with a proj on this game the other person can be all the way across the ring and has enough time to just walk over and kick you without hurrying. My other, smaller complaint, is the lack of Fatalities. One per person just isn’t enough IMHO. They get old after you see them once or twice.

All in all a great game and one of the few fighters that can keep me entertained in single player mode. This is by far the best MK game as far as pure fighting goes.

BTW, Where the hell is Kabal? He was my favorite!!

I haven’t played MK:DA, though I will when I get home.

Just decided to poke my head in and echo your sentiment about Kabal. Best. MK Caracter. Ever. The groundsaw will certainly be missed. :frowning:

How’s Kenshi?

Er…MK:DA.

Bloody smilies.

I haven’t used him yet. I am using Scorpion right now. I can’t jump around to a bunch of different chars cause I am not good.

For those that don’t know, in the intro movie shows Lui Kang getting killed off by Shang Tsung. Thank god. He was always the cheapest MK cahr ever. Upper fireball, Lower Fireball, FLying Kick, Flying Stomp kick. Playing against him was very hard because you had to take some hits just to get in next to a good LK payer.

Neat! I wanted to play this game from the moment I heard it was being developed. I loved the arcade games. It’ll likely be my next PS2 game purchase (though the cautious side of me wants to rent it first).

I plan on playing Kitana and Kenshi.
