Most annoying robot sidekick

Well, you could argue that he wasn’t the sidekick. (Especially in the original story.)

“Homage” is perhaps not the right word, but in any case the gesture was the filmmakers’, not Bubo’s own.

Claptrap from Borderlands. Hands down.

The one that got on my nerves was B.O.B. from The Black Hole. V.I.N.C.E.N.T. was OK, but B.O.B. grated from the moment he started talking. The botdog from Battlestar Galactica was stupid but didn’t make the same impression on me for some reason; a good (bad?0 runner up though.

K-9 from Doctor Who was redeemed by the fact of being actually useful. One thing that always bugged me about the robot from Lost In Space is that whenever those electrical claws of its would actually be useful, they or it would always be disabled; it seldom ever did anything but wheel around shouting “DANGER! DANGER!” K-9 actually zapped baddies.

I voted for Twiki. Good for Mel Blanc for snagging himself a paycheck and everything, but WHAT a pain-in-the-ass character to watch and listen to.

What really bugs me, though, is that ONE TIME, Zaphod Beeblebrox calls Marvin “the Paranoid Android,” and all of a sudden everyone* who references it has to treat the character as if that’s its name. I mean, it’s not as if paranoia is even the primary characteristic of its complex of mental disorders. For the love of GOD, PLEASE everybody, KNOCK IT OFF.

*everyone except characters in the books, that is.

But “Marvin the Clinically Depressed Android” doesn’t scan.

Voted for Twiki.

I had a tough time deciding here. I quickly jumped back and forth between Twikki and the Owl (Bubo or something?) and Twikki was actually, truly pointless and annoying, but at least we got Mel Blanc and a couple amusing lines from him.

The Owl always bugged me because it always seemed so out of place. Skalder the Brave had a point though that it actually has origins in the mythology so it’s got that going for it, which is nice.

No way was R2d2 annoying, he was fiesty and and did lots of cool stuff. He drives the plot in new Hope and is integral to the orginal trilogy. Ignore the oil shooting and the hover jets from the prequels.

Ultimately, I chose Criton. What a pointless, superfolous, useless character. All he did was stand around on the bridge and talk about how superior he was. I think the only thing he ever did was undent Twikki’s brain with the help of the space midgets – unless that was Twikki undenting Criton’s brain? In any case, Criton’s uselessocity was light years past any of the other robots listed.

Now that I voted I see Twikki’s running away with it. I can’t say I’m disapointed to hear that though.

What about the robot from “Lost in Space”? “Danger Will Robinson, Danger Will Robinson.”

buck rogers’ twiki is annoying? i’ll take him over smart-ass criton anytime. and that robot in lost in space is another candidate. i hate smart-ass sidekicks.

Yeah, great one! Better yet, how about that owl from “Clash of the Titans”!

My first thought was the robot from Lost in Space. He was pretty annoying.

Wow. Walter the Wobot. How about Hoagy?

In that list, I pick B.O.B

Yeah, I get all the hate for Twiki, but dammit Crichton (I thought named for the author, as were so many characters on that show.) was what the writers/producers of the show came up with when they realized that Twiki wasn’t generating enough hate. Twiki was awful, Crichton was worse.

Hack/Slash. They never stopped talking.

Honorable mention: T.E.L.M.A.
While C-3PO would interrupt at the most awkward moment, T.E.L.M.A. would so so in a way that would make the succeeding moment also awkward.

On the scifi series Lexx you have 790 the head of a robot that is programed to be in love with Xev, and hates Stanley Tweedle. No robot ever created is more annoying than this one.

Twiki by far. K-9 (at least in the NuWho episode ‘School Reunion’) is a good dog. And he’s got some of the best lines:
“We are in a car.”
I mean, c’mon, I wasn’t the only one who got misty-eyed when he sacrificed himself to blow up the Krillitanes, was I?
I’ll concede I was annoyed that they brought him - or worse yet, a ‘replacement’ - back at the end of the episode; it kind of cheapened his heroism.

That robot from Lost in Space was pretty annoying. Does anybody else remember it?

That does not compute.

Mel Blanc makes up for a lot. So I voted C3PO.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the thread title was Twiki, so I went with it. The other robot may have been worse but he wasn’t in it enough to even register in my memory. Sure Mel Blanc was cool but that voice was disturbing coming from a walking, talking penis.
