"honestely believe that Allen is staying with Soon-Yi because he believes it makes him look good. "
Oh yeah. It’s nice that I don’t get to the most ludicrous idea until the end of the day.
By all accounts he was, even long before he met his last wife (Trashilla the Damned), one of the nastiest people in an industry known for nasty people, but at his best (and he wasn’t always anywhere near his best) he was a great actor. I almost hope he does get one more role. Since any money he earned would go to his horrible late wife’s trashy family he probably would insist on being paid at least part of his fee in a paper bag, but still might be worth it.
I am well aware of that. He is a good example of someone who’s career was destroyed by public opinion. Between trials there wasn’t much call for him as an actor or public figure. His book tanked I suppose he made some money from memorabilia.
Simon Cowell
Charley Sheen
Howard Stern
I never understood why his incident was so amazingly shocking or bad. Compared to what we forgive others for, he did not do much at all.
I do not think most adults viewed him as representing innocence; his Pee-wee character was obviously working on two levels and was more adult than child-oriented in the beginning.
I was stunned it took awhile for him to come back. I only saw him in Batman Returns, Mystery Men, You Don’t know Jack, and from there he kind of returned.
As communicated to Twickster by PM, I agree I was out of line here and wish to offer my apologies.
Sorry.
Continue.
Hoe about those televangelists who kept being caught with hookers and blow, and kept making teary eyed “thank you lord for giving me another chance!” comebacks?
Really? I wasn’t aware that any of Sarandon, Robbins, or Streisand went to Vietnam and were photographed manning an AA gun.
I don’t remeber it that way. I don’t think he was a pariah. He lost his kids’ show (which was probably on the way out anyway), and all the kid’s associations for Pee-Wee Herman (ride at Disneyworld, movies), but you have to expect that. Kid’s star can’t be arrested jacking off at a porn theater.
Other than that, I don’t think he was despised. I think many people (including myself) were just a little surprised he was straight.
I thought his kid show was long over by that time.
In comparison with Bill, yes, Arnold is a white knight. I don’t care about either one of them, either way, but, no, in re: their adulterous activities, Bill, when confronted, lied and lied, and kept lying.
Arnold’s marriage v. Bill’s staying married doesn’t have anything to say about either of them, seeing it is the wife’s decision (apparently).
Again, I despise/love them equally, don’t care for either of their politics, if either/both of them died/got knighted tomorrow, I could care less.
Don’t you move! You aren’t going anywhere till we get more specifics, dirt, and lots of it!
Pony up! Let’s hear some. Or, make a new thread. One or another. That is your only choice. ![]()
Read Mia Farrow’s memoir “What Falls Away.”
Basically, Allen left the nude photos of Soon-Yi where Mia would be sure to see them. He continued to state that screwing her daughter was just a diversion, a little fling to give Soon-Yi some confidence. He hoped Mia would forgive him and they could move on, together.
The custody battle was very, very ugly. Woody did everything he could to make Mia looked bad, none of while worked. He claimed she was running a foster home, and treated her four biological children different from her foster children.
Soon-Yi had a lot of baggage from her biological mother, a Korean prostitute who beat her severely, and then left her at an orphanage when she was considered too old to be adopted. Her affair with Allen could be a result of her hatred towards her own biological mother.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in anything Mia Farrow has to say as she’s quite a devious and manipulating person. Read Mr. S: My Life with Frank Sinatra, written by Sinatra’s longtime valet, George Jacobs. In it he relates tales of how Mia Farrow (not that much older than Soon-Yi when the affair with Allen began) in a see-through dress deliberately set about seducing Sinatra as part of her master plan to create a master race of offspring by different fathers, starting with Sinatra and moving on to Leonard Bernstein, Picasso, JD Salinger and Bob Dylan.
Clearly she only partly succeeded, apparently substituting Andre Previn for Leonard Bernstein and falling short with Picasso, Salinger and Dylan (though who knows for sure :D). I’m not sure just where Woody Allen came to fit in with her cold-hearted use-'em-and-discard-em-for-the-next-important-artist list, but it seems he was a suitable fit not only on artistic grounds but as a perpetual motion machine for acting jobs as well.
This shows what a cold-hearted, devious and manipulative person Mia Farrow really is, and I for one wouldn’t take her word on anything. As I said upthread, Woody Allen and Mia Farrow lived maintained separate housing arrangement throughout their relationship and Allen maintains that Mia showed up at his place unexpectedly and found the photos lying out he’d left them. So, who do we believe? Did Allen deliberately leave them lying out knowing Mia would find them, or did Mia show up unannounced and discover them while there for some other reason? My guess is that Woody Allen, not being a stupid person, would not have left the photos out for Mia to find and go ballistic over, thereby jeopardizing not only his career but his relationship with her other children who he clearly cared about a great deal. Now contrast that with the devious and manipulative nature that Mia Farrow has demonstrated since at least her late teens, and I’m quite a bit more inclined to believe Woody Allen than I am Mia Farrow.
You may be right about Allen’s having known Soon-Yi since she was a child, though I read otherwise, but so what? Every person who gets married or begins to have sexual activity in their late teens was a child at some time. Simply knowing someone when they were young does not permanently put them out of bounds as an adult (and yes, even at seventeen a person can be considered adult, especially to someone of Allen’s generation where women getting married and having kids at seventeen and eighteen was very common and widely accepted - as an example my mother had me at eighteen and she was in her second marriage then. The notion that anyone a day under eighteen is a baby when it comes to sex and therefore anyone attracted to them sexually must be a pervert is a recent phenomenon.
Take a look at Wild Man Blues sometime and you will learn that Woody Allen and Soon-Yi have pretty much a typical relationship in which she feels perfectly free to kid, prod and cajole him, while at the same time feeling perfectly free to make him swap his hotel breakfast with hers because she didn’t like the way hers was prepared. In short, she seems neither intimidated by nor subservient to him, and he willingly and with good humor puts up with behavior from her that I doubt he would tolerate for a second from anyone else. Here’s a snippet from an editorial review of the film on Amazon’s site:
So all in all, when it comes to the relationship with Soon-Yi, I’d say that Allen is more sinned against than sinning. If people want to dislike him because he fell in love with his girlfriend’s daughter (and married a woman much younger than him to boot), in my opinion that is all well and good. We’re all entitled to our opinion. But he shouldn’t be excoriated as some dirty old man fondling his daughter behind his wife’s back in her own home - an image which is fictitious in every detail.
As Allen himself has said, “The heart wants what it wants.” And given that he and Soon-Yi are still together with children of their own some twenty years later, I’d say they were wise to listen.
Sean Penn. He’s actually done a decent acting job in several films such as “Sweet And Lowdown” and “Mystic River” but he is an arrogant, quick tempered ass hole. In fact even though he is very left wing as is much of Hollywood, it’s been revealed by one producer that even though many in Hollywood agree with Penn’s politics, they absolutely HATE IT when Penn goes and visits Hugo Chavez and the late Saddaam Hussein because many liberals in Hollywood feel that such visits only give ammunition to Rush Limbaugh and other talk radio pundits who feel that Hollywood types hate America.
Don’t know why they’d object to Chavez so much; Fidel Castro has a much worse record of human rights violations and dealing with his opponents than Chavez does, and plenty of them, including Steven Spielberg, have practically slavered over Castro.
Sean Penn used to beat Madonna when they were married back in the '80s, including hitting her in the head with a baseball bat on one occasion. He’s a scumbag.
I wonder how Spielberg would enjoy actually LIVING UNDER Castro!
Right. That’s why Mia Farrow has adopted so many handicapped/older/mixed race unadoptable children.
