I have a black wool Austin Reed suit with three pieces: jacket, skirt, and dress. It cost around $600-$700.
Got a black leather jacket for Christmas which was on sale for about seventy dollars; after that, everything else cost twenty dollars or far less. I’m real big on thrift stores.
I have a Nicole Farhi overshirt/dress/kurta/thingy that cost about £120 ( currently 'bout $220), and that was in the sales. My usual m.o is to buy fancy stuff half-price in the sales.
Best value thing I ever got was an Ally Capellino suit that cost me round about £120 iirc, and served me very well for years.
Definately my SIDI Vertebra Race boots at USD 260 on sale.
Except for my motorcycle gear, I don’t spend much money on clothing.
My glasses were in the 400 dollar range. Other than that, my bridesmaid dress (in a hideous green color) for my aunt’s wedding was 160. Wore it to my prom, too.
In every day wear? I own two pairs of Docs, one brown T-strap mary janes, one black normal mary janes, about 100 dollars each.
I dunno - maybe a $20 sweater. I really don’t spend very much $$ on clothing.
I’ve got a duster that I got in Sedona that cost me about $250. That’s about it.
My wife got me a suit one year that cost about $400. I don’t think I have ever worn it.
Now if you mean what a piece of clothing is worth - I collect neckties, I picked up a tie at an old clothes shop for $15 and it turned out it was hand drawn by Dali. It was appraised in the four figures.
I think I paid about $350 or so for my Calvin Klein suit, which I wear regularly. But a suit consists of two pieces, and it’s hard to quantify what the pants and jacket each cost.
Other than that, my most expensive items of clothing are probably my Levi Skinner jeans, which cost about $110. (Some of those were bought on Ebay, for much less.)
My wedding dress - $700 but absolutely the most elegant thing I’ve ever owned. And I looked gorgeous, not like a fat, white meringue.
DeHusband has a floor length distressed leather duster that he paid $400 for in Hong Kong about 15 years ago.
I think my sneakers were $30 and my jacket was $25 (I got it in february of 2003 when people were selling winter items on clearance). My shirts and jeans cost from $10-20 each so I guess $30 is the most expensive right now. My watch is about $32, but I don’t know if that counts as clothes. Glasses were $130, but its the same thing, I don’t think they are clothes even though I wear them all the time. When I need to buy a suit i’m sure it’ll be more than $30.
Number one is a full-length duster-style black leather coat, which cost around $500. My custom-made 50X beaver cowboy hat was just under $400.
i have a couplefew shirts that cost between $80-$100. and my team canada jersey cost $120 or so.
and i have two silk ties that were over $70 each. but most of my clothing is cheap jeans & tshirts and/or second hand / surplus. i got my overcoat (wwii officer style) for thirty bucks.
oh, i have a fedora (real beaver felt!) that cost about $250 (it’s also custom fitted.) that would be the most expensive clothing item i own.
alice? Is that really you? Did someone sneak onto your computer when you weren’t paying attention?
Well if we are talking special purpose clothing, the most expensive would be my nomex driver’s suit which is about $1300 with all the custom embrodiery. When you add in the helmet, shoes, socks, gloves, nomex undies and the head sock and a bag to keep it in we right in the neighborhood of $2000.
When we turn to other hobbies I just bought a new pair of bib shorts for riding my bicycle. I thought it was nuts to pay $139 for a pair of bike shorts, then I rode in them. I will never buy the $50 dollar ones again.
For regular street type clothes, I have a pair of Red Wing boots that are about $175, and a beautiful London Fog long double breasted wool coat that I only wear a few times a year, it was probably about $200. My suits ( I have 3) are about $250-300 each.
Most of the time I spend about $20-30 for most of my pants and shirts.
It would probably be my Ralph Lauren leather jacket, for a little over $3000 AUD (an xmas gift from my boyfriend). It’s a gorgeous distressed caramel colour, and in a fitted blazer style.
Geez, that’s a whole order of magnitude more than I paid for my racing safety equipment… What sort of cars do you race?
Me, too. Technically, the most expensive item of clothing I own is a silk Armani blazer in deep red, that should have cost $400 according to the original price tag that was still on it when I picked it up at the thrift for $7. For things I have actually paid full price for, the most expensive item I own is probably a bra from Victoria’s Secret!
In terms of things I’ve worn more than once or twice, it would undoubtedly be my tae kwon do uniform, which is a very high-quality one and ran about $70.00.
Other expensive things…uh…the skirt-suit I wore for my bat mitzvah, together with shoes and a blouse, probably cost about $100.00, including alterations so it, y’know, fit. But that included tailoring, and was more than one single item of clothing.
Well, and if you look at it a certain way, the two shirts I own with my college seal on them are, seeing how I wear them because I’m a student here, but I don’t think it’s fair to say I paid 40k+ for two shirts.
My wedding dress was about $300, which was a bargain. The most expensive dress I tried on was $4,400, though I had no intention of spending an insane amount like that.
I own a long camel coat that I’m fairly certain I got on sale, but it was probably more than $300 to start.
