Playing off of the twist ending thread, what do you feel the most memorable lines of certain movies are. For example, “He slimed me!”, “Well my nuts are halfway up my ass, but other than that, I’m perfect!”, and “Play it again Sam.” (Ghostbusters, Weird Science, and Casablanca)
Sorry, but “Play it again, Sam” was never said in Casablanca, the line is: “If she can take it, I can, play it.” Not quite as memerable.
My favorite line is from Dr. Strangelove:
“Gentlemen, you can’t fight it here, this is the war room!”
Actually i think the most memorable line in Casablanca is “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship”
Also I am quite fond of
“We don’t need to show you no steenkin badges” - treasure of the sierra madre
“You know how to whistle don’t you? Just put your lips together and blow” - to have and have not
“She’s nothin but a little lyin’ ass bitch… I know she says she loves you but you know she don’t care…”
According to the IMDB, ( http://us.imdb.com/Trivia?0034583 ),
“Ever run backwards naked through a cornfield?” Half Life
“I know kung fu.” The Matrix.
Not to be a prude, but shouldn’t this be in MPSIMS?
You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.
I stand corrected. Also, bravo on the Matrix line. You couldn’t be more right.
I thought “There is no spoon” was better…
Another memorable quote is “Why is this in General Questions?”
“The world ends when I die. And as far as I’m concerned, the rest of the universe might as well call it a day too.” – Matt Groening
“I never drink. . .wine.” Bela Lugosi’s “Dracula.”
“Your words ring true. They bear the ring of truth.” John Huston’s “Gandalf” in “The Hobbit.”
“I think he just said something.” Paul Newman’s “Cool Hand Luke.”
“Good morning, Dave.” Jeff Goldblum’s laptop in “Independence Day.”
“Yum Yum!! Eat 'em up.” “Uncle George” in “The Kid from Borneo.”
Oh, and one of my favorites:
“I deny the allegations, and I resent the allegator,” as spoken by “The Kingfish.”
“Listen, sister, as long as there’s sidewalks, you’ve got a job!”–Joan Blondell, “Footlight Parade”
“You just gotta save Christianity, Richard–you GOTTA!”–Loretta Young, “The Crusades”
“Go. I am wee-wee of you now.”–Marlene Dietrich, “Shanghai Express”
“I hayd her–I hay dot qvinn!”–Zsa Zsa Gabor, “Queen of Outer Space”
“Those aren’t pillows!” Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
Ty Webb: I like you Betty.
Danny Noonan: That’s Danny, sir.
“Try not. Do… or do not. There is no try.” - Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back
“To hell with those fellas. Buzzards have to eat, same as worms.”
“Dyin’ ain’t much of a living boy!”
Both from The Outlaw Josey Wales, IMO one of the most quotable movies I’ve ever seen.
my name is enigo montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die–princess bride
there is a little of don juan in everyman, my dear. but since i am him, there must be more of it in me.–errol flynn
walk on one side,ok. walk on other side,ok. walk in middle, smushed like grape-mr. miagi
“What we got here is a failure to communicate” - danm…Paul Newman. Hud?
“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.” - Duh! (The Godfather for the 16 year olds among us)
This is a non-smoking area. If we see you smoking, we will assume you are on fire and act accordingly.
“Hi Mr. Breakfast! Hi Pee Wee!” - Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Probably misremembered although quite memorable. Paradox
Stoid, the line you are confused about comes from Cool Hand Luke
But the mention of Hudsucker Proxy reminds me of “You know, for kids!”
“She’s nothin but a little lyin’ ass bitch… I know she says she loves you but you know she don’t care…”
“I want to learn the ways of The Force and become a Jedi like my father.”
'Nuff said.
From the little-known '70s New York City movie Warriors, as the Coney Island-based gang is stuck in The Bronx:
“We must be fifty to a hundred miles from Brooklyn!”
This line shows me perfectly how New Yorkers think whehn it comes to distance, and I find it funny, being a New Yorker.

Satan
