Here they are, folks. The most popular threads on the SDMB in the last year, by posts and views. See what you’ve missed, find out what goes on in the forums you don’t read.
I looked them up by posts first. Where there’s one or zero threads by views, it’s because one or both of the highest by posts was also highest by views. A few are old threads that got bumped this year. Please don’t bump any of these. About This Message Board
If you go down to the blue bar at the bottom of the thread listing in a forum, you can select what it shows. It says "Showing threads 1 to 50 of [somenumber], sorted by [thread title; last post time; number of replies; number of views; thread starter] in [ascending, descending] order, from [a bunch of timespans]. Just set it to 1 year, sorted by replies or views.
All that coding took longer than finding the threads.
Well, this is nice and all, but I think some results are skewed. For example, my May 5, 1945 thread was written in 2000 originally. This means that the posts and views you counted as “2002” ones are really cumulitative ones since the OP in May of 2000. I doubt it’s the third best viewed thread this year. Same applies for Satan’s Pit thread, which was bumped this year. The OP isn’t even a member of this board anymore.
Yeah, Coldfire, I realized that. But the only way to filter out the old threads would be to open them all up and count the number of posts from 2002, and there’s absolutely no way for me to count the number of views from 2002.
That’s also why I did more than one per forum, so that there is at least one new one.
So when, Esprix, are you going to re-open ATGG V? (I know there was one, which went MIA in the Winter of Our Missed Content.) I’ve learned a lot from the 4.5 ATGG threads, and would welcome learning more.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my parents, God and Ayn Rand and all the little people who made this possible!
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Krabbaple, my third grade dance teacher for her encouragement, my mailmain (HI MR. LUMPKIN) for delivering my invitiation to this award show, the flasher on the corner where I work for making me realize that not all men are created equal.
Thank you!
I love you ALL!

Huh. I figured your parents would have been wolves of some sort.
He’s already been responsible for the most popular thread dedicated to a single essay, and it’s only March. You’re going to have to do something impressive to beat him this year.
Sorry for bumping, I ran across this thread and felt all paternal-like or something.
