Let’s have your nominations for the Best SDMB thread. Limit your direct quoting to the barest minimum, and please provide a direct link if at all possible.
This will show all the recent newbies what the SDMB is capable of, and should bring back some fond memories to us old fogies.
On reflection, I’m going to retract my nomination. It seems to me that the thread actually wasn’t all that great. No one could ever deny that the OP was a masterpiece, but the rest of the thread was pretty boring.
I just read yojimbo’s link to Coldfire’s thread. It was amazing. I’m going to search like mad before I nominate one though.
Here’s one example of where our valued troll/sock puppet community has provided enough entertainment to not get themselves banned within 24 hours (I think this particular character survived for at least a couple of weeks):
I, too, think the “May 5, 1945” thread is one of the best ever. Not for my own OP, but for the various heartwarming responses that it triggered. It is fantastic to see so many people out here that know and care about our freedom. Doesn’t happen that often in real life. And it is, in fact, more important than most of the things we usually discuss here, because it affects us ALL.
As said, the term “Best Thread of All Time” can mean various things. I don’t think I laughed as hard ever as during Wally’s Cybersex thread, or his Why me? thread (Hint: Gerbil Alert!).
But for overall entertainment, I have to say Guy Stuff wins hands down.
WallyM7 does win the “Best Poster of all time” Award though. No question.
Wally’s work was some of the best ever given to the SDMB, but for reasons best left unmentioned, I strongly suggest that the cybersex thread not be elected.
GEeze, Tymp I looked at the Demo ass slammer thread and it was totally different than what I recalled. A. it was funnier than I recalled and B. I didn’t realize how successfully I had hijacked that thread…
