Mota vs Piazza Round TWO

I am sure many baseball fans remember the incident last year between Guillermo Mota and Mike Piazza… or maybe you don’t. If that is the case I will remind you. Mota hit Piazza with a pitch, Piazza thought it was intentional. He did not charge the mound, but instead found him after the game walking along the sideline and grabbed him by the jersey collar and gave him a good talking to. After the game Mota was quoted on saying that he would “get Piazza back”.

Yesterday in a 10-1 Dodgers vs Mets spring training game, LA pitcher Guillermo Mota threw an inside pitch to Piazza that nearly hit him. No reaction from Piazza. The very next pitch was a fastball aimed straight for the 10 10 220 pitchman’s head. It hit him on the shoulder and Piazza immediately charged the mound, bloodlust in his eyes. Mota, upon seeing this, backed up quickly, threw his glove at Piazza’s face, then proceeded to sprint in the opposite direction. Jeremy Burnitz was able to get a good hit on Mota but Mike was restrained. Mota’s Dodger teammates were able to secure him in the dugout and keep him safe. Mike truly had a look in his eyes that has to be seen to be believed. Check out the video here.

All I have got to say is that Mota is perhaps the biggest p*ssy to ever play professional sports. If you watch the video you will see why. Even the commentators were talking about his cowardly behavior. The guy actually threw his glove and ran. You gotta see this.

I saw the video and I don’t blame Mota for running. I ran for cover myself after seeing the look on Piazza’s face.

Seriously though, it was a stupid move on Mota’s part. After the incident last year, and the Clemmons/Piazza incident from a few years ago, Mota had to know how Piazza would react. If you’re going to throw at someone’s head you should stick around for your ass beating.

Mark McGwire once said the only way to avoid being hit by a pitch was to show the pitcher you would go after him. I think Piazza sent that message out loud and clear.
