So what does Dad buy for Mother’s Day from the (toddler) kids? ISO ideas!
Well, my dad didn’t buy it but I got my mom a ring from Facist-Mart. It has white, pink and yellow gold. It’s a heart with MOM in the middle and a little pink gold daisey. It only cost me about $20. I already gave it to her and it made her cry. 24 years of practice and I finally got my mom a gift that made her cry. Also, it’s inexpensive enough that it could actually come from a little kid.
Another year, I got her a gift that was supposed to be from all 3 of us kids. It came from 1-800-Flowers. It was a little wheelbarrow with 3 small plants in it. One for each kid. That didn’t make her cry but she loved it and actually managed to keep them alive.
Really though, anything that she already likes is a good bet. My mother loves snuggly pullover bathrobes. I get her at least one a year and she still loves getting them. Find something that your wife loves and get her a new one.
If your kids are old enough to understand the concept of Mother’s Day, ask them what they want to get her. You’d be surprised at the insight some kids have where mommy is concerned.
Good Luck!
are you going to come back and tell us what you got in the end?
How about letting your kid(s) pick out some candles for her. My husband takes the kids out shopping and tells them to pick out something for me and, when they were younger anyway, they always picked out candles!! Very easy for them to pick out and you just have to pop them in a gift bag with a little tissue paper and viola! Great gift from the kids.
The kids are a little older now (4 & 6) and instead of candles they’ve started picking out sunglasses for me! My husband took them shopping for my birthday last year and they picked out a very nice pair of Ray Bans for me.
Hanging basket plants are nice and will remind her of the little ones all summer. Also, if she’s the type, a manicure is nice. And cheap. I only pay $20 with tip.
I planted my mom’s flowers in front of her house every year. Now that she’s gone, I do it for my dad, in honor of my mom.
Take the toddlers to the grocery store (20 minutes of quiet will be a gift for mom) and have them pick out flowers. My kids are bigger–the 5 yo picked out red carnations, and the 7 yo picked out daisies dyed blue, because she knows that I like blue. The daisies are pretty hideous, but it really is the thought that counts.
I take them to one of the large variety retail stores like Target, set a dollar limit, and then walk areound with them for a while.
Last year, the girls were 7 and 3 and they picked:
some flowers
a vegetable strainer
fluffy slippers
a broom
I let them pick out the cards and write on them. Even if it’s just some crayon scribble, it’s totally precious.
She loved it. As long as the kids pick it out themselves, it’s a winner.
