Since she’s in the news again, I thought someone might find these photos interesting.
For people who don’t know, she was just a nice, pretty pointy peak in the Cascades, and then BOOM, she literally blew her top.
That’s a beautiful mountain range for anyone who hasn’t been to Oregon/Washington. Others could tell you more, but all those mountains are basically just piles where lava bubbled up. They sit over a ridge where one plate is being forced under another and there’s a bunch of pressure and molten rock down there. So they’re all basically pointy, separate mountains (Three Sisters, Jefferson, Mt Hood, St Helens, Rainier, etc.).
That’s opposed to something like the Rockies which were forced up when two plates came together.
Anyway, that’s not even geology 101 and probably wrong in parts but the pictures are kind of cool.
