Lemme find a cite, but Dr Pepper is actually a combination of 26 or so flavors; the maker wanted it to taste like the smell of a then-common soda shop.
ive actually looked at the dr pepper site and stuff…read all that info about it being made in 1885 and shit. pretty cool.
I thought cream soda was old fashioned soda shop soda.
I forget the place where I saw “26 or so”, but the Dr Pepper FAQ here confirms that it is a blend of many flavors and spices, and it even goes on to speculate about what flavors they may be.
aka Brown Fizzy Sugar Water
also, people where i live call it “pop” instead of soda. this pisses me off to no end because POP IS SUCH A STUPID NAME. it doesnt pop or hardly make any noise! soda is a much better name. Also, when people say “soda pop”…man thats just the worst
They call it soft drinks where I orig. come from.
dNL = BLORCCCH
This has got to be the satan of all normal and good tasting drinks.
Am I the only one who believes this?
wtf is dNL?? diet…?
DNL is the bane of human existance. It is a green, syruppy concoction created by 7-up. Imagine, if you will, melting down a package of all green lifesavers, then drinking it.
Shudder.
oh i get it…i had that…it was OK
On my college BBS* we had the great pop/doda debate.
To try to settle the argument, I came up with a new term:
NACB: Non-Alcaholic Carbonated Beverage (pronounced nack-bee)
Brian
*For your youger folks, a BBS is loacl message board system (basically). They were popular before the internet was avaialble to mortals.
I spotted the LiveWire stuff at the grocery store yesterday afternoon and thought, “Wow, I must have that. What could be cooler than orange Mountain Dew?” The answer to that question: almost anything.
The stuff tastes like a mouthful of Fun Dip (powder candy with a fun little stick with which you dip and lick). I can’t taste the orange flavor until after I’ve swallowed. On the plus side, the soda does have an appealing orange-with-a-hint-of-cotton candy scent.
I don’t have a favorite soda at the moment. Dr. Pepper used to be it, but it’s tasted overly sweet lately. I’ve settled for Coke and Pepsi when I’m out or eating something. If I just want a soda, I choose Cherry Pepsi.
Cherry Pepsi and Coke are nice too, but i would have to say Code Red or Vanilla Coke are my alltime favorites. someone earlier mentioned White Chocolate kit kats…I MUST HAVE THEM, but ive not seen them around here on the east coast…
Hey I LIKE DnL!takes mild offense
My sister and I used to hang candycanes over the edge of our cups of Sprite at Christmas time so I imagine that tastes similar to Sprite Ice. My mother and grandmother thought it was disgusting but my sis and I loved it.
Haven’t tried the Mt. Dew LiveWire yet but if they are on sale, we’ll probably buy some at the store tomorrow when we buy groceries.
My favorite non-diet soda? Cherry Lime Dr.Pepper–made by mixing cherry syrup and the juice of one lime with a glass of Dr.Pepper.
IDBB
thats an interesting combination
I was raised in the Capital District of the Nation’s Greatest State, so I absolutely love Adirondack brand sodas.
As per the LiveWire, the thing I love about it is that it tastes a bit reminiscent of Orange Jell-O brand gelatin dessert. I have a very high tolerance for caffeine; I used to pound a couple Mountain Dew’s before bedtime, now I’m just a coffee and diet pill junkie. Here, then are my favorite non-diet sodas:
- Regulation Mt. Dew
- Fanta (tie between strawberry and grape)
- Wyld Cherry Pepsi
- Code Red
- Dr. Pepper
LiveWire is good, but it’s just regular orange pop.
Vanilla Coke is OK, but it leaves a weird aftertaste.
That blue berry-flavored Pepsi is OK, but it’s too sweet.
Lemon Coke is the unholy love child of Coca-Cola and Pledge furniture polish [insert nausiated smiley here]
Personally, my favorite non-diet soda is a Fountain Cherry Coke. Not the junk in the can. Others that I really love are Hansen’s Tangerine-lime, 365’s Cherry Vanilla, and A & W’s Root Beer. If my body could handle it, I would be a huge soda junkie.
But, since I’m trying to cut down on my carb consumption, it’s diet Vanilla Coke for me.
Isn’t that why they coined the term “soft drink”? A “stiff drink” has (hard) liquor in it, a soft drink is non-alcoholic. (Yes, I know that leaves out beer and wine, but those are separate categories anyway.)
Your term specifies carbonation, but I think people ask for juice and water by name anyway.
