So, Arnold, why are you so excited about moving a thread? Got too much moderatin’ to do, so you’re shoving it off to CK?
The poster formerly known as jti.
Moving a thread is the big event on my social calendar. Even better than providing a link! I brought out the crystal glasses and bourbon to celebrate.
Noodles, are you sure that that thread was a comment on the Staff Report, though? Keep in mind that Cecil also did a column on it. In fact, Dex even links to that column in his own answer, so folks’d be aware of it. The OP of that thread could well have been referring to either.
Chronos, sounds like Arnold was just looking for an excuse for a bourbon.
Chronos, I think the first sentence of the OP, i.e. <<Another possible source for the origin of “Hip”…>> makes it pretty clear that the poster was referring to the staff report, especially since C K Dexter Haven’s staff report had just been published. I was aware of the Straight Dope column; as a matter of fact, originally, that’s what I thought the poster was referring.
Boy, all this explaining has gotten me thirsty. Time for another bourbon.
Mr Winkelreid, I trust that you are moving and celebrating using the approved method, which goes something (well, not anything like what must you really do, but) like:
Open form used to move thread; shot of bourbon. Mark click; shot of bourbon; bound click; shot; cut click; shot; go to new page; shot; mark click; shot; paste click; shot. Realize that you just moved the thread to the pit. Shot. Mark click; shot of bourbon; bound click; shot; cut click; shot; go to new page; shot; mark click; shot; paste click; shot. Run out of bourbon; go get new bottle; shot. Realize that while you were moving the thread, two new posts were made in the old location; shot. Go back; redo move; shot. Fall out of chair, taking mouse along; retrieve mouse and reseat self; shot. Close form used to move thread; shot. Task completed; shot.
Call friend to request that he post something in a wrong thread.
Sparteye, my procedure does not benefit from the same formal rules as yours. Perhaps I will give your method a shot.
