Movie TV Pairs

Inspired by this thread, can you think of any TV or movie pairing in which one half went on to fame and the other not so much.

Bosom Buddies: Peter Scolari went on to do Newhart and the occasional film or tv walk on, but nowhere near the fame of Tom Hanks.

Bill & Ted movies: Alex Ward went into directing and has had a pretty good career, however his name isn’t nearly as recognizable as Keeanu Reeves.

Any more you can think of?

Mork & Mindy: Robin Williams is hugely famous, but I can’t recall the last time I saw Pam Dawber.

The other guy from “Miami Vice.” Although it’s not as if Don Johnson’s career is soaring at the moment.

Any of you “younguns” ever heard the name “Andrew Ridgely”? See, like 25 years ago, he was part of a bubblegum musical duo called “Wham!” that featured a young (and supposedly straight) George Michael.

And then there’s Cybill Shepard - Bruce Willis’ co-star in “Moonlighting.” A few years ago, Cybill approached every major network & cable company with an idea for a reality show in which a camera crew would follow her around film “the glamorous life of a Hollywood star.” Every one told her ‘no way’. (When Farrah Fawcett pitched the very same idea, she got picked up by the first network she spoke with). Now compare that with Bruce Willis’ post “Moonlighting” career!

I’m sure cases could be made for the “other” one in this list, but one certainly has done better than the other:

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

Al Franken and Tom Davis.

Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas.

Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff both became huge the same year (1931) and appeared in several pictures together, but Lugosi’s decline is so legendary it won Martin Landau an Oscar while Karloff simultaneously grew richer and more respected as an actor.

Cheech Marin has a far more vibrant (and I suspect far more lucrative) career than his embittered former partner Tommy Chong (currently on parole after a stint in prison for selling bongs on his web-site).

Dennis Hopper has had his ups and downs but in general has majorly eclipsed Easy Rider co-star Peter Fonda.

Mark Paul Gosselaar (Zach from Saved by the Bell) starred for four years on the hit NYPD Blue while co-star Mario “Slater” Lopez hosts pet shows, kiddie shows and anything else that will pay him. (Mark’s also more successful in marriage.)

Corey Feldman isn’t exactly a gauge of sizzling hot career, but at least he still has one, while his friend and constant co-star Corey Haim became an indigent drug addict who admits to having prostituted himself to women for money (there are gay-for-pay rumors as well but he denies those).

Adam West has a good career as a distinctive voiced has been but I don’t remember the last time I saw Burt Ward.

Dan Akroyd has done dozens of projects in the last two decades but John Belushi hasn’t worked at all.

Huh…this came up in another thread earlier today. Sarah Jessica Parker is a huge skan…errrr…star, while the other girl from Square Pegs does coprorate research or somesuch now.

How about Cindy Williams, formerly Shirley of “Laverne & Shirley.” Penny Marshall has a directing career, but what’s Cindy been up to for the last 20 years?

Pam Dawber was on the TV show - My Sister Sam, the one that co-starred Rebecca Schaeffer, the girl who was killed by her stalker. I never saw the show but it was kinda a hit.

What of Joyce DeWitt of Three’s Company? John Ritter and Suzanne Somers did other things but I don’t remember seeing Joyce ever again. I always preferred her over the blondes.

Yep, I know. That’s what inspired this thread. (note link in OP)

“My Sister Sam” went off the air seventeen years ago. I wouldn’t say that Pam Dawber is much of a name today, compared to Robin Williams.

Sometimes with these movie/television pairings you may be surprised by which one ends up being successful. There was a cheesy family film about ten years ago called “Airborne” where a teenage California surfer dude is forced to move to Ohio to stay with his aunt, uncle and goofy cousin. You’d think the actor playing the surfer dude might have gone on somewhere but he didn’t do anything, aside from a soap opera role for a couple of years. Meanwhile, the goofy looking kid playing his Ohio cousin? That was Seth Green, who has a long list of credits.

John Schneider went on to have a pretty good career after the Dukes of Hazzard. Tom Wopat really didn’t.

Not that seeing a lot of John Schneider is a bad thing…

Perhaps because his name is Alex Winter?

Or how about Perfect Strangers? Bronson Pinchot did a bunch of…um, er… Well, that Mark Linn-Baker…damn!

I feel kind of bad for laughing, but that really was very clever.

Two children find an Extra Terrestrial. One goes on to live the exciting life of Drew Barrymore. The other the slighty less exciting life of Henry Thomas.

Turner and Hooch. Tom Hanks doesn’t even return his calls.

I saw Burt on TV a few years ago, and, sad to say, he’s still wearing the Robin costume. :frowning:

Um, Wham was on MTV, so…

George Michæl has made so much money that he intends to release his future albums for free , but Andrew Ridgeley pumped my gas yesterday. (not really)

That’s because you’re looking in the wrong database: Wopat is a successful Broadway star, playing leads in “Chicago,” “42nd Street,” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”

In the fine comedy “Flying Blind,” Tea Leoni is a successful star, while Corey Parker is barely known.

What, we’re supposed to read the entire OP now??
