Movies that should have a sequel

Apparently ID4 is finally getting a sequel…much too late to catch the buzz that my 200 million Box Office idea would have garnered: “ID5, we’re taking the fight to them!”

I’m not sure what’s holding up History of the World, Part II…I guess they must be waiting for more history…

Cabin in the Woods II. The biggest shift in tone since The Mary Tyler Moore Show-Lou Grant:

Either a ‘Godzilla movie’ or the aftermath of nuking the site and a straight up conspiracy thriller.

I’d like to see the planned sequel to Bram Stoker’s Dracula- the Van Helsing Chronicles.
That’s Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, played by Anthony Hopkins. Not “Gabriel Van Helsing”, 2000 year old survivor of Masada & some sort of kindred to Dracula, played by Hugh Jackman.

Also, I want more John Carter movies!

And the rest of Narnia!

Omar Little, agreed. I’m a fan of the Reacher novels and I refused to go see Cruise in the role. Tom Cruise, though a good actor, is physically nothing like Jack Reacher. Reacher is 6’7"; Cruise a foot shorter. Reacher’s physicality is a key element in the books. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, The Mountain in Season 4 of Game of Thrones, could play Reacher (assuming his Icelandic accent isn’t too thick) but Cruise, nah, no way.

I think that Braveheart 2 should focus on the struggle of the raw milk enthusiast community against the tyranny of government health agencies and pasteurization. :stuck_out_tongue:

You actually should. The whole movie is paced and shot with the tone of a 70’s Frankenheimer film. It’s quite something regardless of Cruise.

Yeah. I was so looking forward to Dawn Treader (probably the best of the books), and so disappointed by the plodding film, and am so much more disappointed that we won’t see at least The Silver Chair to finish the major arc of the series.

I don’t know how they did so well with the rather precious and lightweight first one and even better with the second one, only to botch what should have been the best of even a seven-film set.

I could not agree more. I waited and waited for VotDT and was bitterly disappointed. By far my favourite book in the series.

Another vote for:

The Big Lebowski Part 2
The Professional Part 2

and

Three More Days of the Condor
Out of Sight Part 2

Sr Siete, I do like Frankenheimer. Okay then, since it’s on Netflix, I’ll give it a try some rainy afternoon soon.

How about Blade Runner 2?

I quite liked the Get Smart movie with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, and would have loved a sequel to it. I wonder why that didn’t happen.

Rapid Fire 2 (which Brandon was apparently discussing with studios) should have become a TV series…

The wife and I thought Golden Compass set up sequels but got outgunned by Narnia and was perhaps politicked to death.

FireFly the movie should have fed back into the TV series with The Operative joining the crew…

John Carter deserved sequels but has now been ‘dismissed’.

Mission Impossible really shouldn’t have gone into sequels.

–G!

Did you read the sequels? The Golden Compass sets up a wonderful, imaginative world, with armored polar bears, witches, your animal companion/dæmon , airships, and so forth. The sequels get rid of all that to add in dark, gritty, boring and preaching.

It’s not exactly a sequel the way you want, but they did release a straight-to-video movie set in the same “universe” starring two of the minor characters from the Get Smart movie, played by the same actors:

The Princess Bride.

The movie Skyline is pretty old hat and stereotypical, and then right before the ending it suddenly takes a very interesting turn and then it is over.

I’d like to see the sequel if they pick up where the first one stopped.

Cloverfield from a different perspective. Battle: Los Angeles sequel only this time with Marines led by Eckhart’s character liberating NY. My wish list would include more tank vs alien action and of course an IMAX 3D release. I would also second the Unbreakable sequel suggestion introducing a “sidekick” type character who would compliment/negate Willis’s character’s only weakness by being immune to water/ drowning.

Not necessarily a sequel, but I’d like to see at least a reboot for The Wild, Wild West or The Mask of Zorro.
