Movies that should have a sequel

This. Not a sequel though but a reboot. Change the ending so Conner is not the last immortal and then you can do proper sequels.

There’s Super 8. It’s not a sequel but maybe a sibling film. I read that Spielberg wanted to do a “Goonies”-esque type movie so they made Super 8. I thought it was a well written adventure story with kids as the main characters. It’s a lot more actiony than Goonies but it has that Goonies feel to it.

Did you read the sequels? The Golden Compass sets up a wonderful, imaginative world, with armored polar bears, witches, your animal companion/dæmon , airships, and so forth. The sequels get rid of all that to add in dark, gritty, boring and preaching. . .

I have the His Dark Materials collected work in my Amazon Kindle wish list, but haven’t gotten around to purchasing it. I see it once in a while and wonder when I’ll actually have time to set aside to read. And then some people tell me the sequels are dark and gritty and I kinda lose enthusiasm. I must say the idea of a secular Narnia does appeal to me, though.

One thing that struck me (and my wife) when we watched Golden Compass on Pay-Per-View long ago was that the polar bear animation seemed a lot like the polar bears for the Coca Cola commercials. Maybe it was the same CGI guys.

Not secular at all. Anti-Christian maybe, at least anti Dogma. But there’s still a Deity, still a afterlife, there are still souls, etc.

It shouldn’t have, because the first one was awful, and then it should have stopped with two because that one was utterly forgettable, but fortunately they didn’t stop there as 3 was awesome and 4 was pretty good as well. Thank you based JJ Abrams for saving this series (even if it’s still nothing like the shows).

Yes, it takes a Tom Cruise to turn a franchise about a TEAM into what was more or less a solo action film.

Hocus Pocus

Douglas Adams had a co-writing credit on the screenplay. I’ve read the book and thought they did pretty good.

I think that at one point, they were going to skip over to the Magician’s Nephew, but are now planning to make the Silver Chair.

I liked it, and I read the book.

Didn’t really like the book, though.

Speaking of the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy… They edited much from the book for the movie script. This I understood, because there’s just too much in the book to squeeze into a single film. But, what I did not understand was the fact that they added in a bunch of material that was not in the book. The new material was substantially weaker than the quite strong material that was left out. Baffling. Douglas must’ve been absolutely desperate to get the film done if he signed off on such poor changes.

I have to give another vote for The Big Lebowski. What a brilliant film! At this point, it could center around The Dude’s child. The Dude, the every man, doesn’t want any of the adventure. He doesn’t want the conflict; he doesn’t really care too much if the girl gets rescued. He just wants to get his rug cleaned. Why is that so hard? Watching him trying his best to stand still while the world spins around him is akin to how many people feel in life - adrift without a paddle.

The Matrix

A sequel to My Cousin Vinny in which Vinny and Mona Lisa have married, had kids, divorced, Mona Lisa has gone to law school, and now the two are facing off as opposing counsel in a murder case.
OR, they’re divorced but come back together to defend their “yoot” son of a crime.

No no – it should be about the Scottish independence question. It should end with Mel Gibson being crucified in the media, but defiantly screaming “Referenduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum!”

Goonies Sequel
