Most everyone does it thousands of times in their lifetime. To many, it’s an enjoyable everyday occurence: a break from the rush, a chance to read up on something, have a conversation with your SO, or self-reflect. Unlike many activities shown in movies, it’s not violent, criminal or otherwise harmful. Yet the movies never show it. I’d be giddy to see a splash of realism in a mainstream movie where the protagonist sat on the can while a scene unfolds. Has it ever happened?
that collage flick with the guy who never graduates and the bad guy who tries to get him in trouble and his GF dumps ex lax in his drink thing and he poops in a trash can…does that count?
some Jackie Chan flick has him fight a guy in a stall while some comedian makes comments from the stall next to him…
but a plain old poop?
Vince Vega gets shot when he is on the can in Pulp Fiction. That’s gotta count - even though the end result was both violent and harmful to him.
The Diarrhea Twins in “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.”
Well obviously Fat Bastard takes a dump in one of the Austin Powers movies.
And there is definitely some defecation in Meet the Feebles
I’m not sure if the act was ever completed, but it was initiated in Rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween.
Then you have the infamous scene from Dumb and Dumber when the laxative takes effect…
After posting I saw the reference to Harold and Kumar and thought about the sequel, Escape from Guantanomo Bay, which starts with a poop scene.
Thanks for the suggestions! I shoulda clarified, though: I’m not looking for outrageous black (or brown) comedies or off-the-wall parodies - you can sure find your share of coprophilia there - but “serious” movies; drama etc, where taking a dump was not the nucleus of the scene but rather a mundane backdrop (heh!) for something more profound, in a realistic way. Guess it’s a rare specimen indeed.
If I remember correctly, The Missing opens with Cate Blanchett’s character in an outhouse.
Dreamcatcher has some serious bathroom situations going on.
The Brothers McMullen
I vaguely remember a scene where one brother is sitting on the throne while having a conversation with another, and at one point Ed Burns asks him to do a “courtesy flush.”
In the indie movie “Ellie Parker” Naomi Watts goes surprisingly graphical.
In **Shaft **(the one with Samuel Jackson) one of the bad guys is taking a dump whilst talking with one of the other bad guys (Christian Slater I believe).
In the Shawshank Redemption, one of the guards gets locked in the can when Andy plays the opera record for the prison yard.
In Arachnaphobia, the father is on the throne while the daughter is showering and along comes a spider.
From Seinfeld (I know we’re supposed to be talking about the movies) George has several hijinks that follow him using the toilet. To wit: George running out of the bathroom with pants around the ankles when Kramer fields a phone call that George had given as his place of employment –Vandalay Industries of course; George takes off his shirt evidently when he does his business and reenters his girlfriend’s mother’s party after forgetting to put it back on; George has to take a crap in a bookstore and takes a fancy art book with him to the bathroom which then gets flagged forcing him to have to buy the book.
That’s all I’ve got. I think I have to go to bathroom now.
In Trainspotting there’s a scene where Spud sleeps with a (school)girl but loses control of his bowels during the night. Utterly gross. And I believe Renton also craps out some methadone or something at one point, then dives into the toilet to retrieve it.
It’s maybe not mainstream, but The Phantom of Liberty has a famous scene where the dinner guests all sit on toilets around the table and excuse themselves to go and eat in private…
Since he emerged with a book or paper (can’t remember which) I assumed he was sitting down for a no. 2.
The very start of Shrek features a visit to an outhouse.
First thing I thought of was Danny Glover and the booby-trapped toilet in Lethal Weapon 2.
A Pulp Magazine with Modesty Blaise.
The third Naked Gun film, can’t remember the name of the guy, Papsmear (only now do I think to myself, “wait, pap-smear”?) dies on the loo taking a dump.
In the movie S.O.B. (best known for Julie Andres’ topless scene), one of the characters manages to involuntarily perform every possible bodily emission during the course of the film, including unintentionally shitting himself.
Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. And Friday. (Yeah, I watch dumb movies sometimes)
Thread parodies belong in the Pit.
