Movies where the protagonists are total douches

Han’s a scoundrel, maybe, but he’s pretty much an anti-douche. He did far more for Luke & company than he had any obligation to.

A law abiding citizen, both protagonists and almost everyone in the picture are douches. The only sympathetic character was the hot blond prosecutor friend of Jamie Foxx.

Being John Malkovich. I made it maybe halfway through, but I couldn’t take it. The only character who wasn’t hopelessly unpleasant was Malkovich, and there wasn’t enough of him to keep me interested.

I came in to mention Groundhog Day, but this quote conjured an image of Harry enjoying a Massengill…

[shakes head]

Bill Murray’s character in Groundhog Day, of course, needed to be douchey to make meaningful his ultimate conversion to sensitive-man. I’ve always been impressed how he was able to pull off a likeable asshole.

But to be technical, Samantha is the protagonist of the show not Darren.

I know, I know, I’m being a douche pointing that out.

I actually came in to point out that Austin Powers is pretty much of a douche, especially in the first film. But that was part of the point of the comedy in the first place - pointing out just how much the characters from the old spy films were douches.

Oh, I don’t know about that. Not about Samantha being the protagonist; obviously she was. You’re not douchey to point it out. Darren, Endora, and the rest all need to be douchey for her to have conflict.

Match Point

Miles was invited by his mother to take the money, he told her he didn’t need it and took it anyway without telling her. She knows damn well he’s going to take it, he has probably done it before and will do it again and she keeps it in the same place. She specifically offers him money so that she can rest easy knowing her little baby isn’t a thief. Yeah, this is screwed up, but it shows his pathetic relationship and low self esteem. I left sometime during the date because I hated these two so much.

Superman Returns ** was pretty much Superdickery: The Motion Picture: so this guy’s a deadbeat dad, a stalker, a home invader, a serial ingrate and a home wrecker, and we’re supposed to cheer for him? Best bit was when Kevin Spacey kicked the shit out of him.

Well, Miller wasn’t too bad. He was just weird. But he had some good stories about John Wayne and plates of shrimp.
