Movies With No Love Interests

From the 1930-70s. Any country.

“12 Angry Men” is the one that comes to mind.

Old Man and the Sea (1958)?

All Quiet on the Western Front - 1930

Star Wars, maybe? The sequels had a romance, but it wasn’t really there in the original beyond there being characters of the same species but different genders.

I’m pretty sure 2001 would be another.

Night of the Living Dead
Arsenic and Old Lace

Luke had an obvious (and later, embarrassing) boner for Leia, though.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre

Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control
The Five Thousand Fingers of Dr. T
Fly Away Home
Hairspray
The Inn of the Sixth Happiness
The Iron Giant
The King of Masks
Lawrence of Arabia
A Man For All Seasons
Men In Black
Microcosmos
My Father’s Glory
Mystery Men
Nanook of the North
Not One Less
October Sky
Quiz Show
The Secret of Roan Inish
The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao
Seven Samurai
Shrek
Smoke Signals
Straight Story
To Kill A Mockingbird
Twelve Angry Men
Waking Ned Devine
Wallace and Gromit
The Wizard of Oz

Some of these I am not sure there is absolutely nothing as it’s been awhile since I’ve seen most of them.

I’ve been meaning to see this for years. Thanks for the reminder.

“The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” is one of my favorites. We were having a conversation about this elsewhere, whether or not its a Western or not. Great movie nonetheless.

The Great Escape
The Longest Day

The Guns of Navarone

Not that one. The whole basis for the plot is the marriage between Mortimer (Cary Grant) and Elaine (Priscilla Lane) and Mortimer trying to keep how crazy his family is from her.

Good catch. I misremembered.

There’s a budding romance between Bart’s mother and the plumber Mr. Zablowski.

? There are romances between Tracy and Link and Penny and Seaweed.

Hogarth’s mother Annie and Dean end up in a relationship.

It’s not explicit, but Daud may have been Lawrences’s love interest.

There’s a romance between Cunningham the newspaper owner and Angela the librarian.

???The whole thing is a romance between Shrek and Fiona, not to mention Donkey and the Dragon.

Only the first film, A Grand Day Out. In the others Wallace is usually smitten by some femme fatale.

The Thing (1982), of course.

Zero Dark Thirty
Alien

The samurai Katsushiro falls in love with the villager Shino.

Twentieth Century (1934) - Although Carole Lombard and John Barrymore are top-billed, there is no “love” or romantic interest between their characters.

Ice Station Zebra
Many prison movies (e.g., Caged, Riot in Cell Block 11, Escape from Alcatraz, etc.)

Tim Holt had a young lady (never shown, except maybe in a photo) he was encouraged to return to at the end.

All the President’s Men.
