Movies you can't not watch

Independence Day

I know

Elizabeth
Mrs. Brown
Shakespeare in Love
Neverending Story
Bring it On
Moulin Rouge!
any episode of Firefly

And, not just “can’t not watch”, but “can’t stop watching the hacked up edited version if I stumble on it on television, even though I own the DVD”:

Stand by Me
Top Gun
Dirty Dancing

And “ditto” to:

Ladyhawke
Princess Bride
Sense and Sensibility
Fiddler on the Roof

The Lost Weekend
Bridge on the River Kwai
It’s a Mad, etc. World
Sabrina
Aliens
The Little Foxes
Forbidden Planet
Yojimbo
Triplets of Belleville

Anything with Humphrey Bogart or Jean Harlow. (Key Largo, Red Dust)
Any movie musical, old or new. (The Band Wagon or Phantom of the Opera (2004).
Any sci-fi, old or new (War of the Worlds new or old, 20 Million Miles to Earth)/
Any costume drama (Ivanhoe, A Man For All Seasons, Camelot).

It’s a wonder I ever get any sleep at ALL.

I like a lot of the movies listed above, but the ones that I can not pass up:

Shawshank Redemption
The Color Purple (and I cry at the end. Every. Time.)

And, Og help me…

Forrest Gump

Tombstone always seems to get me
Sullivan’s Travels and O Brother Where Art Thou
A Room with a View
Delicatessen
Cool Hand Luke
Mujers al Borde del Ataque Nervioso

Titanic
Murder on the Orient Express
Mommie Dearest

The Hunt For Red October. I literally cannot count the number of times I’ve watched this film because I stumbled across it while channel surfing. Even with all these viewings, it wound up in my Netfix Instant Watch queue. I resist the urge to watch it because there’s so much stuff I haven’t seen, but I can’t bring myself to delete it from the queue.

Tremors
Zombieland
The Commitments

Another one for Independence Day.

Also Tombstone, The Natural, Bull Durham

Gladiator
Naked Gun (all)
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Diamonds and Pigs
Galaxy Quest
Groundhawk Day
Henry V (Brannagh)

The Man Who Wasn’t There.
The Big Lebowski.
Bad Santa.
Fargo.

I’m in good company with several of these movies… I think.

Princess Bride
Serenity
LotR Trilogy
Gladiator
The Last Samurai
Iron Man and Iron Man 2
Once Upon a Time in the West
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz have both been on recently, and I couldn’t look away from either of them. The most shameful movie that I can’t not watch is Knight and Day. There, I said it. It was on a loop for a long time last year and I was powerless, I must have watched it every day for two months during that run.

Oh man, haunted house by the sea. Family secrets. Cool 30s era dresses and cars. Icy secondary characters. Scary portraits. Cold rooms. Danger. Romance. A terrier! This movie has my name all over it!

Reservoir Dogs
Apollo 13
After Hours
Short Cuts
Platoon

Already mentioned: Shaun of the Dead, The Princess Bride, Die Hard, a few others.

Kelly’s Heroes
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (It is an ‘Event Sociological’)
The Driver (The Ryan O’Neal one, not the Ryan Gosling one)
The Road Warrior
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Miller’s Crossing
My Cousin Vinnie
The Matrix
The Incredibles
Swordfish (and I have no idea why)

A terrific opening sequence, plus Halle Berry’s boobs. And the rest of the movie is fun too.

Mine are actually ones I in some sense despise but am fascinated by and can’t look away:

Where the Heart Is
The American President
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

I’d like to add these to mine, as well.
