Movies You Selected Because of a Face of an Actress

I’ll be browsing movies people rate/review, and some insert posters, and for some reason, I can pick em just by the face, but it’s rare that this happens. “The Forest For The Trees” is one. “Paradise: Love”… “Dance In The Rain” was one I just saw, which is a pretty far out there movie. And all were great. I know there’s another, but I can’t think of it.

Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill come to my mind. Uma Thurmon is hard not to notice.

I probably saw this because of the poster…

Too many times to list whom.

I watch* Asian movies and series nearly exclusively and since I’m a member of a private Asian torrent site, in addition to the several dozens of my past favorites, I’ll see someone in a thumbnail that strikes me and I’ll download the movie or series. Then if the actress does a good job or just further fascinates me, I’ll download anything and every she appears in.

My 30+ year obsession with Joey Wong Jyo Yin / Wang Tsu Hsien, from the 1987 A Chinese Ghost Story, began with a clips of her in the movie from and episode of “The Incredibly Strange Film Show” in 1991. I’d previously seen a single B/W Xerox shot of her, but didn’t completely fall in love with her (even though my then girlfriend was right behind me!), until I saw her on screen.

“Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle.” I had no idea that the movie was about writer Dorothy Parker when I rented it eons ago, and they could hardly have picked a less representative still from the movie to put on the cover. Props to the marketing folks.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I will.

Garbo

I already fell for that one 25 years ago…

If you’ve watched this movie, you’ve seen my avatar.

ETA: I forgot to include the Amelie poster. That’s the movie I was referring to, not Tank Girl.

I really wanted to see Aelita, Queen of Mars based on this image (and others);
but it was really silly.

I thought that was Gwen Stefani for years. I’d just seen Stefani in No Doubt around that time.

Have you seen “He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not”? She’s the star, but… I won’t spoil it for anyone. I highly recommend it, but it’s been many years - one movie I saw within a year of its release.

I’ve watched movies just because of the beauty of the main actress…Birigtte Lin, Diana Rigg and Franka Potente come to mind but I’m sure there were others.

Movie Studio exec: “There’s no way people are going to download a movie just because the thumbnail shows an attractive woman.”

Streaming Service marketing guy: “I think you’re underestimating the Older Male demographic. And the Horny Guy demographic, and the Shallow People demographic…”

Movie Studio exec: “Ahh, but would the otherwise tasteful intelligentsia fall for a cheap ploy like that?”

Streaming Service marketing guy: “Look, I have solid proof. Read this thread here…”

Movie Studio exec: “Wow, you’re right. Okay, take that 1949 documentary on mud and put put Kate Beckinsale on the thumbnail.”

Streaming Service marketing guy: “Already did! And it jumped to number three with that audience.”
