Moving Men

I was wondering if anyone has used “Moving Men” (polymer discs put under the feet of furniture) and if they have, do the things work? I have to move a display unit that weighs about 750lbs. I don’t want to take the unit apart. Any info would be appreciated.

It’s simple. They’re plastic discs with some padding on the underside. Plastic is usually smoother than the base of the furniture so it has a lower coefficient of friction with the floor (i.e., it is easier to slide). You put the “Moving Men” under the corners of the display unit and slide it over.

And they are als

whoops.

And they are also wider than the feet of the furniture. So they provide more surface area and reduce digging in to the carpet of the feet.

I expected a question about male poets.

I expected one about removal men.

Or one about kinetic alteration of male humain beings.

We used them at our house with some success to move a loaded filing cabinet. The cabinet was on a rug, so it was hard to isolate the load on the discs instead of the bottom of the cabinet.

The problem I have with the moving men is that you still have to lift whatever it is you are moving to get the discs under it. If the item you are moving is heavy, you may crack the item as part of it lifts up and the other part doesn’t.

This one time, in real life, we had an entertainment center that was on castors. We tried to move it when it was loaded on carpet, and the castors just snapped off. That really sucked. (as if any furniture manufacturers are listening!)

Gee…I guess you will have to go buy another entertainment center…he he he!

I can’t help reading that with a girl-from-American-Pie voice in my head

We used 'em to move my entertainment center across the living room - worked like a champ! I’d give 'em an 8 out of 10.
