Has anyone seen Mr. Deeds ?

I was wondering if there’s anything in it that would be inappropiate for a nine year old. I know it’s rated PG-13, but I’ve seen other movies rated PG-13, that I didn’t thnk were too bad.

The real question should be: is there anything in any Adam Sandler movie that is appropriate for anyone with an IQ over 5?

I’ve seen it, and I hate to admit it, but I laughed a lot. I enjoyed it far more than I expected I would.

Now, I don’t know what you consider inappropriate for a 9 year old. But for what it’s worth, I can tell you this:

  1. There’s no nudity or simulated sex. There are, however, a few comic innuendoes about foot fetishes. I doubt whether a 9 year old would even get the joke.

  2. There’s no bloodshed or gore. However, there IS a scene involving a frozen corpse in a coffin, and you hear a bone or two breaking. In context, it’s hilarious, but… I don’t know, a sensitive 9 year old kid might have a problem with that scene. Or YOU might have a problem with the kid seeing that. I’ll let you decide.

Also, while Adam Sandler’s character is a good hearted, moral guy, he’s also the type who gets into fistfights regularly. The fight scenes are comical, rather than disturbing. They didn’t strike ME as violent… but again, I don’t know your standards.

  1. There are a few curse words. Not many. And the guy who uses curse words in front of a lady is punished for it.

So. on the whole, I’D say it’s probably safe to take most 9 year olds to see it, and I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with my 10 year old niece seeing it. But again, since I don’t know how delicate your sensibilities are, I won’t make that decision for you.

I’d consider it safe for a 9-year old. In the case of this movie, I’d guess the rating actually means “Pretty Good, if you’re 13.”

The question to ask yourself is if you could possibly stand sitting through it. This is bar-none the worst movie I’ve seen all summer…and this summer I’ve already sat through “Reign of Fire” and “Blade 2.” I went to this movie with the most die hard Adam Sandler fan imaginable, and even he thought it was awful.
