The above mentioned episode was part of the “Film Ventures” package. It originally known as “The Stranger” - a failed TV pilot. As with all Film Ventures movies (see also “Pod People”) the opening credits have absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie. In this case, the opening credits show people using a transporter-like device. The woman looks like Carrie Snodgrass. Anybody with a clue to what movie it is?
Eight years later, the answer arrives:
Q: I’ve noticed that the FVI movies would show clips of entirely different movies during their title sequences? Has anyone ever figured out what movies they were?
A: So far three have been identified. They used clips from a movie called Galaxy Invader for the titles to Pod People. They used clips from a movie called Prisoners of the Lost Universe for the credits of Stranded in Space. And clips from Son of Godzilla was used for the opening credits of Godzilla vs the Sea Monster.
This may be the most impressive zombie ever.
Other than The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Zombies, of course.
And what a star-studded adventure it was!
Richard Hatch (Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica) and John Saxon (the go-to heavy for about 1/3 of the films that were MST3Ked), with Kay Lenz (one of those “I know her from somewhere” actresses who work fairly steadily but never break out to fame).
It’s possible the Carrie Snodgrass person was Kay Lenz, actually…there’s some similarity, which would be amplified by the complete lack of film quality that seems to be ubiquitous to those Film Ventures opening credit clips.
I was just watching the movie today, and was curious myself to find out what movie FVI used for the beginning bit. Found this thread, came looking for an answer in a reply, saw none. I then found the answer in another google hit, figured I’d come back and post an answer on the off chance the original author might get the post in a reply-notification email…
Ator the Blademaster (aka Cave Dwellers) has actually been figured out too, it’s some movie called Taur the Mighty.
