I found this on MST3Kinfo.com. I am stoked!
If that’s news to you, maybe you haven’t heard about this, either.
Indeed! Both are potential substitutes for that deep-down MST jones you have to be feeling…
I knew Rifftrax, but the Film Crew looks like more my speed. From what I can tell from a quick skim, it looks like Public Domain films? == FREE?!
I have nothing to add, except that seeing a human being speak with Tom Servo’s voice is incredibly strange.
I’m not sure what you mean by this statement. If you mean “If a film is in the public domain, you don’t have to pay for the rights to use it- or make fun of it,” you’re absolutely right. If you mean “these’ll be free,” probably not- these I think are going to be commercially available DVDs.
Seriously. He’s not even waving his tiny springy arms. It’s just not right…!
And the movement of his mouth synchs up perfectly with the sounds coming out of it. It’s wierd.
I simply meant (and hoped) that they would riff public domain movies. Such as the goodness seen here:
I’ve run Killers from Space at my own Bad Film Festivals. The second half is dynamite MST3K material, but the first half is all padding and dull as hell. We’ll see what they can do with it – I voted for it.
I grew up on this film. I think New York channel 11 (WPIX) must have owned a copy of it, because Chiller Theater ran it all the time. The aliens were guys in purple spandex with PingPong ball halves for eyes, and theyr chubby leader looked like they paid him to do the part with a keg of beer.
Oh man. I just flashed on Monster Chiller Horror Theatre with Count Floyd.
I’ve downloaded several of the RiffTrax, and they do not disappoint. I just paid a whole twelve bucks for *Episode II, The Wicker Man, Reign of Fire, * and Lost. Now I know what I’m doing with my afternoon.
I’ve bought several of the RiffTrax too. I couldn’t be happier to see that they’re offering them as plain ol’ mp3s. No DRM. No bullshit. These guys get it! I’m happy to give them my money.
I don’t know, the rifftrax Star Trek V sample wasn’t that great. Does it get better?
Something that’s not addressed in the FAQ is whether they use the characters from MST3K or not. Of course they can do the voices, but do they ever use the names and everything, or do they not have the rights?
That may just be because Mike Nelson doesn’t have the clout to use DRM and get away with it. But I agree, it’s awesome regardless.
