This year I had a mini MST3K Turkey Day and for some reason I gravitated to some of the darker movies that they covered.
- Teenage Crime Wave-the female baddie reveals her rough life only to end up dead.
- The Girl on Lovers Lane-the female protagonist ends up dead.
- The Brute Man-the story of the lead characters disability, though the female protagonist lives.
- The Coleman Francis trilogy with the worst of the bunch Red Zone Cuba.
I’ll be ending the marathon with Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Santa Claus in order to have a reason to keep living.
If short films count…The Days of Our Years
Definitely. It has been added to the list.
I will never see welding without thinking about this movie. I’m assuming this is the one where they just kind of walk around talking about how quick moments create huge tragedies, like the guy who gets the welding fire in his eyes and is blind.
That and Last Clear Chance dealing with driving. Not everybody welds, but almost everyone drives.
The end scene of Manos is really dark, with the (very young) daughter now being part of the clan/harem for the Master’s pleasure. Really? They thought that was OK to film?
‘They’ thought any of that nonsense was okay to film???
Look, if you don’t see Torgo as a guide and role model in these difficult times, I can’t help you.
