Multiple boats sink at Trump boat parade on Lake Travis in Texas

I don’t care how bad it was, hearing about this makes me happy.

“This tweet is unavailable.”

Too bad. I’d bet the replies to that were nasty and hilarious.

They were. It’s too bad Twitter allows cowards to not have to live with their words.

Lake Travis? Is it a travisty?

Fuck them. If they drown, it’s just Darwin in motion.

“Evolution in action”

SANK.

That is all.

It all started with, “Hey! You scratched my anchor!” :sunglasses:

“You got some boat in my lake!
Well, you got some lake in my boat!”

Brilliant!

Here’s to more Trump boat rallies. Republicans are so selfish that they can’t even share the water safely with each other, speed limits being an infringement of their constitutional right to do what ever they feel like.

“Though many of the boats were said to have been festooned with flags supporting the President, the Coast Guard assures that at no time was any of the boats out of compliance with the USCG regulation forbidding any vessel from displaying a number of flags that is greater than the number of books read in the lifetime of any of the boat’s passengers.”

So there’s that.

Side question: Are the boat owners personally responsible for the cost of recovery, or could they file insurance claims?

That was my thought as a contributing factor. That and inexperience.

I know a lot of people that bought boats as some sort of mid-life crisis, and then realized what upkeep and maintenance for them would be. So they stayed in the garage, very rarely leaving to fulfill their intended purpose.

Now along comes this call to bring your boat out for this parade.

Suddenly these money sinks in the garage can be used to show support for a cause, so out they come. They’ll be fine for a quick run across the lake, right?

What is it with Trump boat rallies, not the trouble but why are they popular in the first place?

No sinking, but one boat caught fire after a rally at Lake Havasu, AZ.

Of course they can file claims if they have insurance. Being a recreational boater by definition requires using a boat for unnecessary and dangerous purposes. Claims can’t be denied on those grounds.

ETA: I specified ‘boater’ instead of ‘boat owner’. Many boat owners never put their boats or anyone else in danger by keeping them out of the water almost all of the time. Most private recreational boats go in the water as often as you use that gym membership.

Symbolic of trying to keep the country afloat. That explains the sinking feeling we have.

But Trump supporters don’t feel the country is sinking at all. “Everything is awesome and we just need to keep the country of e-e-e-vil Joe Biden who’s sold out to the commies socialists!1!”

I get that’s from something, but I really was involved in a collision—between two ships—that amounted to almost exactly that. Bringing one ship alongside a considerably larger ship to take on stores, there was a rubber bumper lowered in place where we were supposed to pull up and tie off. Due to a pretty hefty current, we kept getting set to the larger ship short of our aim point. I kept telling the Captain and the Navigator they needed to come over more, and they kept coming over just not quite enough. In the and, we came up against the other ship well aft of where we meant to be (aft of the bumper), and still moving forward relative to them, roughly parallel. One tip of our port anchor punctured their hull by a few inches (deep and wide), and made a long gash as we continued along to a stop. Finally. Still well short of the goal.

When all was said and done, they had a roughly 20 feet by several inches gash in their outer hull, and we had some scuff marks to our anchor. They scratched our anchor.

Bingo! Look, I hate Trump and Trumpers but I don’t think boats sinking is funny. I wouldn’t think a car crash with Trump bumper stickers on the car is funny either.

I’m sure any little kids who happened to onboard in a sinking boat just thinks the whole thing is a barrel of monkeys.
