As I said earlier in thread, it sounded like it might be a case where the prosecutor could point to several independent lines of circumstantial evidence that cumulatively reach the reasonable doubt standard. There’s no requirement that any single piece of evidence must reach that standard.
Yes, and I think together they do. It’s just still kind of weird that someone can be convicted of such a serious crime without actually having the gun that was used, without having the clothes Alec wore that day, and with the weird, IMO, side issue of the blue raincoat/tarp and inconclusive gunshot residue.
Anyway, I still really do think that the evidence, taken together, indicates he’s guilty.
So glad this is over. I don’t see why this was such a BFD for the past month and we had to have coverage take over cable news so often.
i’m with you boblibdem. there is even a netfix thing about the boat and other incidents. i guess big fish in small “i own this” pond thing.
the jury did not believe murdaugh. one juror said he never saw tears when murdaugh was on the stand. lots of snot, no actual tears. he was very blubbery.
the video from his son paul was a major factor. that proved his lie and there was no defence. also alex and maggie were separated at the time and she was reluctant to meet him, she let people know that.
it is my understanding that they were able to match the bullets from maggie and paul to older bullets on the property. alex claimed that the guns were missing or stolen; and said that paul was rather careless with gun security. alex and buster both said on the stand that paul would leave guns out.
i was surprized on how fast the sentencing could be, if i heard the judge correctly he could have sentenced last night.
AWESOME JUSTICE!
He needs to be found guilty for the housekeeper and for the high school boy too.
The court should be convening right about now for the sentencing phase. I hope it’s life without parole.
life in prison. 2 consecutive life sentences. there was a bit of a back and forth with the judge. murdaugh maintained he would never hurt maggie and pau-pau. the judge said that perhaps the man in front of him now would not, but the man who was taking over 60 pills a day did.
Wouldn’t snot be harder to fake?
I found it interesting that the Law Enforcement Officer standing behind Murdaugh when the judge announced that the life sentence would run consecutively was nodding his head in obvious approval.
I bet a lot of people in that town have despised that whole family for decades.
I wonder what Buster will do.
rubber cement?
Yeah, maybe to get a high.
A man who could fake snot is too dangerous to ever be allowed back into society, or at least into fine dining establishments.
Well, there’s fake snot and then there’s faking snot.
Give a man some fake snot and he’ll pretend to cry for one trial, teach a man to fake snot he’ll pretend to cry forever.
Yeah, I hadn’t been following the case until I couldn’t avoid it. I first heard about the housekeeper this morning. That really made me happy he was found guilty.
I have allergies, so I can usually get a good sniifle. Maybe he’s allergic to prison.
Too bad, so sad.
20/20 and Dateline have Murdaugh specials tonight. 8 to 10 Central
I really hadn’t been following the case, except recently I watched the 3-party documentary from Netflix. When the young Mallory Beach dies from a boating accident caused by Alex Murdaugh’s younger (and now muttered) son, Paul, the family coverup by the powerful Alex and his father, Randolph Murdaugh III is really sleazy.
That powerful family has been getting away with indiscretions and illegal activities for years and years.
Oh, and does the Mallory Beach death and coverup remind anyone of Chappaquidick?
Alex Murdaugh is facing 90+ financial crimes charges. Murdaugh also faces separate insurance fraud charges stemming from a bizarre failed hitjob on himself.
There’s quite a list of potential crimes to sort out.
A lot of that old family property & money may be spent before all the cases are resolved.
I’ve been watching some You Tube videos from a lawyer whose channel is called “J.D. - A Lawyer Explains.” He made a “shorts” video predicting that because Alex Murdaugh admitted on the stand in his murder trial that he did lie to clients and steal their money, some of the financial crimes have no reason to go to trial. I guess meaning that Murdaugh will just not bother to offer a defense for those and admit to them rather than taking it to trial because he has no defense after admitting that he did steal the money.
ETA: A new mugshot is available from his arrival at Kirkland Correctional Institution. Totally shaved head now. Do they do that for lice prevention or something? Will he be allowed to grow his hair back?
I’m having trouble understanding how Murdaugh ran through so much money on opioids.
Sadly it’s a common addiction and other people certainly don’t earn six figures. Murdaugh spent millions. I guess his family’s lifestyle contributed.
