During my last sexual relationship (summer of 2000), I went from Indiana to my then-girlfriend’s house in South Carolina. A few months earlier, knowing that I like Irish music, she bought me a gorgeous CD, Dan Gibson’s Celtic Awakening. When the two of us started getting… ahem… physical with one another, I liked to play that CD. It’s very relaxing and spiritual.
She was gone when autumn came, but I still love that CD, and have it on my XBox 360. It still brings me back to those times, in her bed, and in the shower.
What are your fondly-remembered albums and songs that get you in the mood?
A lot of Brian Jonestown Massacre, in particularly "Anemone "and the whole of Methodrone. With four sides, you can have just about every kind of sex to that album…
“Gimme Shelter” by the Stones.
“Heaven or Las Vegas” by the Cocteau Twins.
The Lemonheads’ “Paint It Black.” The lyric, “…and I’ll shake you” gives me chills.
Sade is sexy. That’s all there is to it: everything about the lady is sexy, especially her voice.
I once read an article about Morphine back in the late 1980s that described them as “the sound of pure sex”.
Barry White - I Only Want To Be With You is almost certainly at the top of my list. The whole 1994 album is excellent, but by the time it got to this song (the third), my girlfriend at the time and I were usually tearing each other’s clothes off. Good times!
Yep, yep. That was one of my favorites back in the day when I used to listen to music when getting intimate. Another one with a particular girlfriend was Nine Inch Nails albums (this would have been Pretty Hate Machine or Downward Spiral.) Or, if I was feeling sophisticated, Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue. I don’t think, though, that I’ve listened to music during sex in well over a decade now.
I guess I’m not wired that way, but many songs do bring me back to a specific time and place and if that was a sexy time then, well… But it’s got nothing to do with the music.
When we were teenagers, my wife and I necked in my bedroom to Time of the Season by the Zombies (a current hit at the time). Hearing it nowadays brings back fond memories and it’s still a bit of a turn-on.
